Pain
Hello Doctor, I have a question.
Recently, I've been experiencing a feeling of bruising in the glans area, and there is pain near the base of the penis.
Could this be related to the curvature of my penis? I'm not sure what this situation might be.
Could you please clarify? Thank you.

Dr. Pan Zhenqin reply Urology
Have you recently engaged in more vigorous sexual activity? Bruising of the glans may be related to intense sexual behavior.
Vigorous sexual activity can also cause microscopic injuries to the penile corpora cavernosa.
Repeated injuries to the corpora cavernosa may lead to fibrotic nodules, penile pain, and penile curvature.
It is recommended that you consult a urologist for a physical examination.

More Info
When experiencing pain and bruising in the penis, particularly in the glans (the head of the penis) and the area near the base, it is essential to consider several potential causes. The symptoms you describe could be related to various conditions, and understanding these can help in addressing your concerns.
1. Trauma or Injury: One of the most common causes of bruising and pain in the penis is trauma. This could occur from vigorous sexual activity, masturbation, or even an accident. If you have engaged in any activities that might have caused physical stress to the area, this could explain the bruising and discomfort.
2. Peyronie's Disease: You mentioned that your penis has a curvature. Peyronie's disease is a condition characterized by the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis, which can cause curved, painful erections. This condition can lead to discomfort and may also be associated with bruising if there has been trauma to the area.
3. Infection or Inflammation: Conditions such as balanitis (inflammation of the glans) or sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can cause pain and swelling in the genital area. If there are accompanying symptoms such as discharge, itching, or redness, it would be wise to consult a healthcare provider for evaluation.
4. Vascular Issues: Bruising can also be a sign of vascular issues, such as a rupture of blood vessels, which may occur due to trauma or other underlying health conditions. If you have a history of blood clotting disorders or are on medications that affect blood clotting, this could be a contributing factor.
5. Other Medical Conditions: Conditions such as priapism (a prolonged and painful erection) or penile fractures (which are rare but serious) can also cause significant pain and bruising. If you experience severe pain, swelling, or changes in the appearance of your penis, it is crucial to seek immediate medical attention.
Recommendations:
- Seek Medical Attention: Given the symptoms you are experiencing, it is advisable to consult a healthcare provider, preferably a urologist. They can perform a physical examination and may recommend imaging studies or other tests to determine the underlying cause of your symptoms.
- Avoid Further Trauma: Until you have a clearer understanding of the cause, it may be wise to avoid any activities that could exacerbate the condition, such as vigorous sexual activity or masturbation.
- Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any additional symptoms that may arise, such as changes in urination, discharge, or worsening pain. This information can be helpful for your healthcare provider.
- Discuss Concerns Openly: When you visit your healthcare provider, be open about all your symptoms and concerns. This will help them make a more accurate diagnosis and recommend appropriate treatment options.
In conclusion, while there are several potential causes for the pain and bruising you are experiencing, a thorough evaluation by a healthcare professional is essential for proper diagnosis and treatment. Do not hesitate to seek help, as addressing these symptoms early can lead to better outcomes and peace of mind.
