Issues related to wounds adjacent to the nasal bridge?
Hello doctor, I have a question.
A few years ago, I developed discomfort on the bridge of my nose on the right side due to wearing glasses, where the frame constantly rubbed against the skin, leaving it red.
I can't remember if there was an open wound.
After I changed my glasses, the rubbing stopped.
However, there has been a small red spot, about 1-2mm in size, that hasn't disappeared in the past two years.
Shouldn't a wound heal and disappear with scabbing? Is there any need for concern? Thank you (the area is just red, not painful or itchy, and hasn't changed).

No lesions were observed, and it is not possible to determine the issue.
If it is causing significant distress, please seek medical attention promptly.

The concern regarding a persistent red spot on the nose, especially one that has not changed in size, shape, or sensation over a period of years, can be a common issue. In your case, the red spot on your nose, which has persisted for 1-2 years after the cessation of irritation from your eyeglasses, may not necessarily indicate a serious problem. However, it is essential to understand the potential causes and when to seek further evaluation.
Persistent red spots on the skin can arise from various conditions, including but not limited to:
1. Irritation or Inflammation: Chronic irritation from friction, such as that caused by eyeglasses, can lead to localized inflammation. This may result in a red spot that persists even after the source of irritation has been removed. The skin may take time to heal completely, and in some cases, it may remain slightly discolored or red.
2. Seborrheic Keratosis: This is a benign skin growth that can appear as a red or brown spot. They are common in adults and can vary in size and color. They are generally harmless and do not require treatment unless they become bothersome.
3. Cherry Angioma: These are small, benign growths made up of small blood vessels. They can appear as red spots and are common in adults. They are usually harmless but can be removed for cosmetic reasons.
4. Skin Tags: These are small, benign growths that can appear on the skin. They are usually flesh-colored or slightly darker and can sometimes appear red if irritated.
5. Basal Cell Carcinoma: While less likely given your description, any persistent skin lesion that does not heal or change over time should be evaluated by a healthcare professional. Basal cell carcinoma is a common type of skin cancer that may appear as a red, scaly patch or a non-healing sore.
Given that your red spot is not painful, itchy, or changing, it is less likely to be a serious condition. However, it is crucial to monitor it for any changes in size, color, or sensation. If you notice any changes or if the spot begins to bleed, itch, or cause discomfort, it would be advisable to consult a dermatologist for a thorough evaluation.
In summary, while the persistent red spot on your nose may not be a cause for immediate concern, it is always best to err on the side of caution when it comes to skin changes. Regular skin checks and consultations with a healthcare provider can help ensure that any potential issues are identified and addressed early. If you have any doubts or concerns, seeking a professional opinion is always a wise choice.
