Uncertain about pregnancy but experiencing pregnancy symptoms?

I had my period from July 1 to 5, and I had sexual intercourse with ejaculation on the 6th and 11th.
I took a pregnancy test on the 17th, which was negative.
However, I have recently experienced nausea, excessive sleepiness, breast tenderness, and lactation.
I took another pregnancy test on the 26th, which was also negative.
Typically, can a pregnancy test detect pregnancy after 10 days or two weeks? Is it necessary to use the first morning urine for the test? Why am I experiencing symptoms like nausea, excessive sleepiness, breast tenderness, and lactation?

123, 30~39 year old female. Ask Date: 2022/08/27

Hello, you can take a pregnancy test 12 days after sexual intercourse, and it doesn't necessarily have to be with morning urine.
If the test result is negative, it is unlikely that you are pregnant.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding pregnancy symptoms can be quite complex, especially when there is uncertainty about conception. Based on your timeline, it seems you had unprotected intercourse shortly after your menstrual period ended. The symptoms you are experiencing—nausea, fatigue, breast tenderness, and even lactation—can indeed be indicative of pregnancy, but they can also be attributed to other factors.

Firstly, regarding the timing of pregnancy tests, it is generally recommended to wait at least one week after a missed period for the most accurate results. Since your menstrual cycle appears to be regular, testing around two weeks after conception (which would be approximately two weeks after your last sexual encounter) is typically sufficient for most home pregnancy tests to detect the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). However, some tests are sensitive enough to detect pregnancy earlier, but the accuracy increases significantly after the missed period.

As for the question about whether the first morning urine is necessary for testing, it is indeed advisable. The first morning urine is usually more concentrated, which can lead to a more accurate result, especially in the early stages of pregnancy when hCG levels may still be low.

Now, let's address the symptoms you mentioned. Nausea, often referred to as "morning sickness," is a common symptom in early pregnancy, affecting many women due to hormonal changes. Fatigue is also prevalent as the body undergoes significant changes to support the developing fetus. Breast tenderness and swelling are due to hormonal fluctuations, particularly increased levels of estrogen and progesterone, which prepare the body for potential breastfeeding.

The presence of lactation (milk production) can be more unusual and may not necessarily indicate pregnancy. It can occur due to hormonal imbalances, stress, or other medical conditions. If you are experiencing lactation without being pregnant, it would be wise to consult a healthcare provider to rule out any underlying issues.

If you continue to experience these symptoms and your pregnancy tests remain negative, it may be beneficial to seek medical advice. A healthcare professional can provide a more comprehensive evaluation, including a blood test for pregnancy, which is more sensitive than home urine tests and can detect pregnancy earlier.

In summary, while your symptoms could suggest pregnancy, the negative test results warrant further investigation. It is essential to consider that various factors, including stress, hormonal changes, or even premenstrual syndrome (PMS), can mimic pregnancy symptoms. If you have concerns about your symptoms or the possibility of pregnancy, consulting with a healthcare provider is the best course of action. They can offer guidance, support, and appropriate testing to clarify your situation.

Theoretically, it is not possible to detect pregnancy one week after intercourse. Therefore, to determine if one is pregnant, it is generally recommended to wait two weeks after sexual activity before using a blood test (HCG) or a urine test to find out.
