Vaccination and Symptoms After Diagnosis

Hello, doctor.
I was diagnosed with COVID-19 while getting vaccinated in April, and now I have several symptoms that I don't know what illness they indicate.

1.
I have been experiencing a rapid heartbeat for four months, which feels like I am short of breath and my head feels swollen and dizzy.
I have seen a cardiologist, and they said everything is fine, but my heart rate only increases during physical activity, and lying down alleviates many of the symptoms.
Most of the tests were done while I was lying down (I had an echocardiogram and a 24-hour Holter monitor).
Is this a case of autonomic nervous system dysregulation that I just have to wait to resolve on its own?
2.
I often feel a significant pressure in the center of my chest, as if a heavy stone is pressing down on it.
Could gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) cause this sensation? I have GERD and post-nasal drip.
3.
The most troubling symptom is that my skin experiences a tingling sensation, as if needles are gently pressing on the back of my hands, cheeks, and back.
If there is any pressure on the contact surface, it also feels painful, mostly in the upper body.
When I feel uncomfortable, my skin often turns red (mainly on my chest, eyebrows, and around my nose), but it does not swell.
My body develops many small red spots that do not itch or hurt.
When the tingling intensifies, my heart rate increases, my gastrointestinal system becomes uncomfortable, and I feel fatigued all over.
I can only lie still and wait for the symptoms to subside.

What is happening with my skin and these symptoms? I endure this every day, and sometimes I experience tinnitus and a sensation that the world is swaying.
Every night, I have GERD, bloating, and irritable bowel syndrome.
It feels like after getting vaccinated, I became ill, and everything exploded at once in my body.
When I visit doctors, they often dismiss my symptoms as sequelae after hearing that I was diagnosed with COVID-19, which I understand, but I feel helpless being tormented by these symptoms every day.
Thank you, doctor.

Post-vaccine symptoms after a COVID-19 diagnosis can be complex and multifaceted, especially considering the interplay between the vaccine, the virus, and individual health conditions. Let's address your concerns systematically.

1. Persistent Rapid Heartbeat: It's not uncommon for individuals to experience tachycardia (rapid heartbeat) after a COVID-19 infection or vaccination. This can be related to autonomic nervous system dysregulation, which may manifest as palpitations, especially during physical activity. The fact that your symptoms improve when lying down suggests a possible postural component, which could be linked to conditions like postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). While your cardiac evaluations have returned normal, it may be beneficial to continue monitoring your symptoms and consider a referral to a specialist in autonomic disorders if the symptoms persist.

2. Chest Pressure and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): The sensation of pressure in the chest can indeed be associated with GERD, which can cause discomfort that mimics cardiac symptoms. The esophagus and heart share nerve pathways, which can lead to confusion in symptom interpretation. If you have a history of GERD, it is plausible that your symptoms could be exacerbated by dietary choices, stress, or other factors. Managing GERD through dietary modifications, medications, and lifestyle changes could help alleviate some of the chest pressure you are experiencing.

3. Skin Sensations and Other Symptoms: The tingling or prickling sensations you describe, along with the skin becoming red without swelling, could be indicative of a condition known as small fiber neuropathy, which has been reported in some post-COVID patients. This condition can cause abnormal sensations in the skin and may be related to the immune response triggered by either the virus or the vaccine. The presence of other symptoms like fatigue, gastrointestinal discomfort, and ear ringing (tinnitus) suggests a systemic response that may be part of post-viral syndrome or Long COVID.

4. Gastrointestinal Symptoms: The combination of bloating, gastroesophageal reflux, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms can contribute to your overall discomfort. Stress and anxiety, which can be heightened after a significant health event like COVID-19, may exacerbate these gastrointestinal issues. It might be helpful to consult a gastroenterologist who can provide a comprehensive evaluation and management plan tailored to your symptoms.

5. Management and Next Steps: Given the complexity of your symptoms, a multidisciplinary approach may be beneficial. This could include:
- Cardiology: For ongoing evaluation of your heart symptoms.

- Gastroenterology: To address GERD and gastrointestinal symptoms.

- Neurology or Pain Management: For the skin sensations and potential neuropathy.

- Psychology or Psychiatry: To help manage anxiety and stress related to your health concerns.

It's essential to communicate openly with your healthcare providers about the persistence and severity of your symptoms. While post-viral syndromes can be challenging, many patients find relief through targeted therapies and lifestyle adjustments. Keeping a symptom diary may also help you and your healthcare team identify triggers and patterns, leading to more effective management strategies.

In summary, while your symptoms may be attributed to post-COVID effects, they warrant thorough investigation and management. It's crucial to advocate for your health and seek comprehensive care that addresses all aspects of your well-being.
