Medical issues?
Hello Doctor, I have been experiencing persistent dull pain in my lower right abdomen for two weeks, which is why I consulted a gastroenterologist this week.
I have undergone eight blood tests, a fecal occult blood test, and an abdominal X-ray, and I am currently waiting for the results.
Additionally, I have been having progressively worsening respiratory issues for the past three months, characterized by an increased frequency of taking deep breaths.
Recently, I have also started to feel nauseous, dizzy, and have difficulty concentrating, and my breathing problems have worsened.
I would like to know if it is appropriate to see a gastroenterologist for these symptoms.
What could be the underlying health issues, or should I consult a different specialty? Should I wait for the follow-up appointment scheduled by the hospital to review the diagnostic reports? I am really uncomfortable but unsure if my symptoms warrant an emergency visit.
Thank you, Doctor.
I am 24 years old, my diet is normal, and I ensure I consume enough fruits and vegetables.
I do not smoke or drink alcohol, and I have a regular exercise routine.
My bowel movements appear normal, but I still feel unwell.

Hello, your previous abdominal pain was indeed evaluated by a gastroenterologist.
However, the subsequent dizziness and shortness of breath may not necessarily be related to the abdominal pain.
It might be necessary to check for issues in other systems.
I recommend scheduling an appointment with a family medicine specialist for further evaluation.
Thank you for your inquiry.

It sounds like you are experiencing a range of concerning symptoms, including persistent abdominal pain, breathing difficulties, nausea, dizziness, and difficulty concentrating. Given the complexity and variety of these symptoms, it is crucial to approach this situation with care and thoroughness.
Firstly, it is commendable that you have already sought medical attention by visiting a gastroenterologist and undergoing several tests, including blood tests, stool tests, and abdominal X-rays. These steps are essential in identifying any underlying gastrointestinal issues that may be contributing to your symptoms. However, the presence of respiratory symptoms, such as increased frequency of deep breaths and the sensation of breathlessness, suggests that there may be more than one system involved in your current health concerns.
Your symptoms could potentially be linked to several conditions. For instance, gastrointestinal issues such as gastritis, peptic ulcers, or even gallbladder disease can cause abdominal pain and nausea. On the other hand, respiratory symptoms could indicate conditions such as anxiety, asthma, or even a respiratory infection. The dizziness and difficulty concentrating could be a result of either the physical discomfort you are experiencing or could indicate a separate issue, such as dehydration or low blood pressure.
Given the combination of symptoms, it may be beneficial to consider the following steps:
1. Follow Up with Your Gastroenterologist: Since you have already initiated care with a gastroenterologist, it is important to follow up with them once your test results are available. They will be able to interpret the results in the context of your symptoms and medical history.
2. Consider a Pulmonary Evaluation: If your breathing difficulties persist or worsen, it may be worthwhile to consult a pulmonologist. They specialize in respiratory issues and can conduct tests such as spirometry or imaging studies to assess lung function.
3. Monitor Your Symptoms: Keep a detailed log of your symptoms, noting when they occur, their severity, and any potential triggers. This information can be invaluable for your healthcare providers in diagnosing your condition.
4. Evaluate for Anxiety or Stress: Given the nature of your symptoms, particularly the breathing difficulties and concentration issues, it may be beneficial to assess whether anxiety or stress is playing a role. If you feel comfortable, discussing these feelings with a mental health professional could provide additional support.
5. Emergency Care: If you experience severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing, chest pain, or significant changes in consciousness, do not hesitate to seek emergency medical care. Your health and safety should always be the priority.
6. Lifestyle Considerations: While you mentioned maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine, ensure you are also managing stress effectively. Practices such as mindfulness, yoga, or other relaxation techniques can help alleviate symptoms related to anxiety.
In summary, while you have taken the right steps by consulting a specialist, it is essential to remain vigilant about your symptoms and seek further evaluation if they do not improve or if new symptoms arise. Your health is paramount, and addressing both gastrointestinal and respiratory concerns will be key to finding a resolution.
