Lower abdominal pain related issues?
I have been experiencing pain in the lower right side of my abdomen near the navel for the past couple of days.
It's not very intense, but sometimes I feel a slight, nagging pain.
My bowel movements have been quite normal.
I have a mild anxiety disorder, and it seems to have worsened recently due to the start of the school year.
I would like to ask the doctor if this could be a spasm or appendicitis? (I found online that it could possibly be appendicitis, which has increased my anxiety, so I wanted to consult you.) Should I get checked out, or should I wait for any additional symptoms before seeking medical attention? Additionally, I don't usually exercise much, but sometimes when I walk a long distance suddenly, I experience pain in the lower right side of my abdomen.
What could be the cause of that? Thank you for your response!

More Info
Understanding right lower abdominal pain can be quite complex, as there are numerous potential causes, ranging from benign to serious conditions. Based on your description of the pain being mild and intermittent, along with normal bowel habits, there are several possibilities to consider.
One common cause of right lower abdominal pain is muscle strain. If you have recently engaged in physical activity, such as walking long distances, it is possible that you may have strained the muscles in that area. Muscle strains can cause localized pain that may feel like a dull ache or a sharp sensation, especially when moving or engaging the abdominal muscles.
Another possibility is gastrointestinal issues, such as gas or bloating, which can lead to discomfort in the lower abdomen. These symptoms can often be exacerbated by anxiety, as stress can affect digestion and lead to increased gas production.
However, you mentioned the concern about appendicitis, which is a common worry when experiencing pain in the right lower abdomen. Appendicitis typically presents with more severe pain that worsens over time, often accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite. If your pain remains mild and does not escalate, it is less likely to be appendicitis.
Given your history of anxiety, it is also important to consider the psychological aspect of your symptoms. Anxiety can manifest physically, leading to muscle tension and discomfort in various parts of the body, including the abdomen. This can create a cycle where anxiety exacerbates physical symptoms, which in turn increases anxiety.
In terms of when to seek medical help, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional if you experience any of the following:
- Worsening pain that becomes severe or persistent
- Fever or chills
- Nausea or vomiting
- Changes in bowel habits, such as diarrhea or constipation
- Any other unusual symptoms that concern you
If your symptoms remain mild and do not progress, you may consider monitoring them for a few days. Keeping a symptom diary can help you track any changes and provide useful information for your healthcare provider if you decide to seek further evaluation.
In summary, while your symptoms could be related to muscle strain or gastrointestinal issues, it is essential to remain vigilant for any signs that may indicate a more serious condition. If your anxiety is contributing to your discomfort, addressing it through relaxation techniques, therapy, or medication may also be beneficial. Always trust your instincts; if something feels off, it’s better to err on the side of caution and consult a healthcare professional.
