Subcutaneous swelling and pain?

Hello, I recently discovered a lump about 1 centimeter in size under my left armpit.
It is painful when I press on it, and I also experience pain when I raise my arm.
When my arm is lowered, I can vaguely feel something pressing under my armpit, and if I squeeze my arm, it also causes pain.
This symptom has been bothering me for four days without improvement.
Given this situation, which specialist should I consult?

It sounds like you are experiencing discomfort from a lump located under your left arm, which is causing pain when you press on it or when you lift your arm. Given that this has persisted for four days without improvement, it is important to take this seriously and consider seeking medical attention.

Firstly, the lump you are describing could be a variety of things, including a swollen lymph node, a cyst, or even a benign tumor. Lymph nodes can become enlarged due to infections, inflammation, or other underlying conditions. If the lump is painful and associated with arm movement, it may indicate that it is inflamed or that there is some irritation in the surrounding tissues.

In terms of when to see a specialist, if the lump is painful, has not improved over several days, or if you notice other symptoms such as fever, night sweats, or unexplained weight loss, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional. You should consider seeing a primary care physician first, who can perform a physical examination and may order imaging studies, such as an ultrasound, to better understand the nature of the lump.

If your primary care physician suspects that the lump is related to a lymphatic issue or if they find it necessary, they may refer you to a specialist, such as a general surgeon or an oncologist, for further evaluation. A general surgeon can assess whether the lump needs to be biopsied or surgically removed, while an oncologist can evaluate it for any potential malignancy if there are concerning features.

In the meantime, it is important to monitor the lump for any changes in size, shape, or associated symptoms. Avoid pressing on it excessively, as this may exacerbate any inflammation or discomfort. If you experience increased pain, swelling, or any new symptoms, do not hesitate to seek medical attention sooner.

In summary, given your symptoms and the duration of the lump's presence, it would be prudent to see a healthcare provider soon. They can help determine the appropriate course of action and whether further investigation or treatment is necessary. Remember, early evaluation can often lead to better outcomes, so don’t hesitate to reach out for help.
