Is it possible to be pregnant?
My menstrual cycle is not very regular, but I do get my period every month, usually about a week earlier or later.
My last period was from September 5 to September 11.
I had unprotected intercourse with my husband on September 23, and I was supposed to get my period on October 4, but it hasn't arrived yet.
Recently, I've been experiencing fatigue, daytime sleepiness, low appetite despite feeling hungry, and mild cramping in my lower abdomen and on both sides.
I took a pregnancy test using my morning urine, but it showed one line.
Should I wait until next Monday to test again? Is there a possibility that I could be pregnant?

Dr. Zhang Kunmin reply Obstetrics and Gynecology
Hello, the early stages of pregnancy may not present specific symptoms, and subjective symptoms alone cannot be used to determine pregnancy.
It is recommended to take a pregnancy test if your period is more than a week late, or consult a physician for examination.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

More Info
Based on your description, it sounds like you are experiencing a range of symptoms that could potentially indicate pregnancy, but there are also other explanations for what you are feeling. Let’s break down your situation and provide some guidance on what to do next.
Firstly, you mentioned that your menstrual cycle is not very regular, with your last period occurring from September 5 to September 11. You had unprotected intercourse on September 23, and your expected period was due on October 4, but it has not arrived yet. The symptoms you are experiencing—fatigue, daytime sleepiness, decreased appetite, and abdominal cramping—can be associated with early pregnancy, but they can also be attributed to other factors such as stress, hormonal changes, or even illness.
Regarding your question about the pregnancy test, it’s important to note that home pregnancy tests are generally most accurate when taken after a missed period. Since your period was expected on October 4 and you tested before that date, it is possible that the test could yield a false negative result. This means that even if you are pregnant, the hormone levels (hCG) may not be high enough to be detected by the test at this early stage.
Given that you received a negative result with your morning urine test, it might be wise to wait a few days and test again, ideally using first-morning urine, which typically has the highest concentration of hCG. If you still do not get your period and the test remains negative, it would be advisable to consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation.
In terms of your symptoms, while they can be indicative of pregnancy, they are not definitive. For example, fatigue and changes in appetite can occur due to various reasons, including stress, changes in routine, or even premenstrual syndrome (PMS). The abdominal cramping you described could also be related to ovulation or the onset of your period, especially since you mentioned that your cycle is irregular.
If you do find out that you are pregnant, it’s essential to start prenatal care as soon as possible. This includes taking prenatal vitamins, particularly folic acid, which is crucial for fetal development. If you are not pregnant and your symptoms persist, it would be a good idea to seek medical advice to rule out any underlying conditions.
In summary, it is possible that you could be pregnant, but the negative test result suggests that it might be too early to tell. Waiting a few days and retesting is a reasonable approach. Regardless of the outcome, if your symptoms continue or worsen, please reach out to a healthcare professional for personalized advice and care. Your health and well-being are the top priority, and a medical professional can provide the most accurate guidance based on your specific situation.
