Post-menstrual intermenstrual bleeding?

Hello doctor, my period started on October 9th and lasts for 8 days each time.
On the 8th day of my period, which was the early morning of October 16th, I had unprotected intercourse, but there was no brown discharge or anything similar.
However, around noon on October 16th, I suddenly experienced brown discharge, which gradually turned red and has continued until today.
The amount is not much, similar to the flow on the 4th day of my period.
Should I wait a few days after my period ends before having intercourse again, or could this be due to other reasons? I have already had two children, and a few months ago, I experienced bleeding for almost a week around the 15th day after my period ended.
I went to see a gynecologist, and the doctor said everything with my uterus is normal.
This change occurred after I had my second child.

Post-menstrual bleeding after intercourse can be concerning, and it's important to understand the potential causes and implications. Based on your description, it seems that you experienced a normal menstrual cycle lasting eight days, followed by unexpected bleeding that started on the eighth day. This bleeding initially presented as brownish discharge, which then turned red and continued for several days, resembling the flow of a typical menstrual period.

There are several potential causes for post-menstrual bleeding after intercourse:
1. Hormonal Fluctuations: After childbirth, hormonal levels can take time to stabilize. This can lead to irregular bleeding patterns, including spotting or bleeding after your period has ended. Hormonal changes can also affect the endometrial lining, leading to unexpected bleeding.

2. Cervical or Vaginal Irritation: Intercourse can sometimes cause minor trauma to the cervix or vaginal walls, especially if there is insufficient lubrication. This can result in light bleeding or spotting afterward. If you had intercourse towards the end of your menstrual cycle, the cervix may still be sensitive, leading to bleeding.

3. Endometrial Changes: Conditions such as endometrial polyps or fibroids can cause irregular bleeding. These growths can be benign but may lead to unexpected bleeding patterns.
4. Infections: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or other vaginal infections can cause inflammation and bleeding. If you experience additional symptoms such as unusual discharge, itching, or pain, it is important to consult a healthcare provider.

5. Pregnancy-Related Issues: Although you mentioned that you have had two children, if there is any chance of pregnancy, it is essential to rule out complications such as implantation bleeding or miscarriage.

6. Other Medical Conditions: Conditions like pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or hormonal imbalances can also lead to abnormal bleeding.
Given that you have already consulted a gynecologist previously and were told that your uterus appears normal, it may be beneficial to monitor the situation. If the bleeding persists or worsens, or if you experience additional symptoms such as severe pain, fever, or unusual discharge, you should seek medical attention promptly.

In terms of sexual activity, it is generally advisable to wait until any bleeding has resolved before resuming intercourse. This allows time for any potential irritation to heal and reduces the risk of further complications. If you are concerned about the timing of your sexual activity in relation to your menstrual cycle, consider tracking your cycle more closely or discussing it with your healthcare provider for personalized advice.

In conclusion, while post-menstrual bleeding can be concerning, it is often related to benign causes. However, it is essential to remain vigilant and consult a healthcare professional if you have any doubts or if the bleeding continues. Regular gynecological check-ups can help monitor your reproductive health and address any concerns that may arise.
