Unexplained fever sensation?

Hello, since recovering from COVID-19, I started experiencing tightness in my heart, chest discomfort, and a feeling of something stuck in my throat about three to four months later, specifically in the first week after my menstrual period in October.
I also felt some trembling near my heart, which seemed related to my heart beating rapidly.
I immediately consulted a specialist for post-COVID sequelae.
An electrocardiogram showed no issues, and I also had an X-ray, but my hemoglobin levels indicated microcytic anemia.
I previously had iron deficiency anemia, which led to a referral to a hematologist.
Naturally, I was prescribed iron supplements, but since starting them, I sometimes experience body heat.
What could be the reason for this?

Some individuals may experience a feeling of fever or elevated temperature while taking iron supplements; it is recommended to increase fluid intake.

Unexplained fever after recovering from COVID-19 can be a concerning symptom, and your experience highlights the complexities that can arise following a COVID-19 infection. It is important to understand that the phenomenon of lingering symptoms after COVID-19, often referred to as "Long COVID" or "Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC)," can manifest in various ways, including unexplained fevers, fatigue, and cardiovascular symptoms.

Your symptoms of chest tightness, palpitations, and the sensation of your heart racing can be distressing. While you have undergone tests such as an electrocardiogram (ECG) and chest X-ray that returned normal results, it is crucial to continue monitoring your symptoms and communicate them to your healthcare provider. The fact that you have a history of iron deficiency anemia and are currently taking iron supplements could also play a role in your symptoms. Iron supplements can sometimes cause gastrointestinal side effects, including fever, although this is less common.

The relationship between iron deficiency anemia and your current symptoms is worth exploring further. Anemia can lead to a variety of symptoms, including fatigue, weakness, and sometimes even palpitations, as your heart has to work harder to supply oxygen to your body. When you began taking iron supplements, your body might have been adjusting to the increased iron levels, which could potentially lead to transient symptoms such as fever. It’s also possible that your body is reacting to the iron supplementation, especially if you are taking a higher dose than your body is accustomed to.

In addition to the physical symptoms, it is essential to consider the psychological impact of your COVID-19 experience. Anxiety and stress can exacerbate physical symptoms, leading to a cycle of discomfort. The sensation of your heart racing or feeling tightness in your chest can be influenced by anxiety, especially in the context of having recently recovered from a serious illness. It is not uncommon for individuals recovering from COVID-19 to experience heightened anxiety or panic attacks, which can mimic or exacerbate physical symptoms.

Given your ongoing symptoms, it would be advisable to follow up with your healthcare provider, particularly a hematologist or a specialist in post-COVID care. They can help determine if your symptoms are related to the iron supplementation, your previous anemia, or if they are part of a broader post-COVID syndrome. Additionally, they may recommend further testing, such as blood tests to check for inflammation markers, or a referral to a cardiologist if your symptoms persist.

In the meantime, maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be beneficial. Ensure you are eating a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals, staying hydrated, and getting adequate rest. Gentle exercise, if tolerated, can also help improve your overall well-being and may alleviate some symptoms.
Lastly, keep a symptom diary to track when your symptoms occur, their intensity, and any potential triggers. This information can be invaluable for your healthcare provider in diagnosing and managing your condition effectively. Remember, you are not alone in this experience, and many individuals are navigating similar challenges in the wake of COVID-19. Seeking support from healthcare professionals and possibly mental health resources can provide additional assistance as you work through these symptoms.
