There is an unknown lump at the base of the penis?
A few months ago, I discovered an unknown lump at the base of my penis that appeared to be a subcutaneous bump resembling a pimple.
Later, I noticed a small red granule that itches, hurts, and sometimes bleeds.
After a while, it disappears, but then it recurs.
I currently have no sexual experience and would like to know what this could be.
I'm feeling very stressed and am afraid it might be something serious.

Hello: It is often an infection, and although it may disappear, it has not fully resolved and may recur.
It is advisable to seek medical treatment, as the chances of complications are very low.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
The presence of an unexplained bump at the base of the penis can be concerning, especially when accompanied by symptoms such as itching, pain, and bleeding. While I cannot provide a definitive diagnosis without a physical examination, I can outline some potential causes and considerations that may help you understand your situation better.
1. Folliculitis: This condition occurs when hair follicles become inflamed, often due to bacterial infection. It can present as small red bumps that may itch or be painful. Folliculitis can resolve on its own, but in some cases, topical antibiotics may be necessary.
2. Pearly Penile Papules: These are small, harmless bumps that can appear around the corona of the glans (the head of the penis). They are a normal anatomical variant and do not require treatment unless they cause distress.
3. Genital Warts: Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), genital warts can appear as small, flesh-colored or gray bumps. They can be itchy or uncomfortable and may bleed if irritated. Since you mentioned having no sexual experience, the risk of HPV transmission may be lower, but it is still possible to contract the virus through non-penetrative sexual contact.
4. Cysts: Sebaceous cysts can form when sebaceous glands become blocked. These cysts are usually painless but can become inflamed or infected, leading to discomfort and potential bleeding.
5. Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV): If the bumps are accompanied by blisters or sores, it could indicate a herpes infection. This viral infection can cause painful lesions and is typically transmitted through sexual contact, but it can also be contracted through non-sexual means.
6. Contact Dermatitis: Irritation from soaps, lotions, or other products can lead to localized inflammation and bumps. If you've recently changed personal care products, this could be a potential cause.
7. Other Dermatological Conditions: Conditions like psoriasis or eczema can also manifest in the genital area, leading to bumps, redness, and itching.
Given the recurring nature of your symptoms and the associated discomfort, it is crucial to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider can perform a thorough examination, possibly including a biopsy or swab, to determine the exact cause of the bump. They may also inquire about your medical history, any recent changes in personal care products, and any other symptoms you may be experiencing.
In the meantime, here are some general recommendations:
- Avoid Irritants: Refrain from using harsh soaps or lotions in the genital area. Opt for mild, fragrance-free products.
- Maintain Hygiene: Keep the area clean and dry to prevent infections.
- Avoid Scratching: This can exacerbate irritation and lead to further complications.
- Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in the bump, such as size, color, or associated symptoms.
In conclusion, while there are several potential causes for the bump at the base of your penis, a proper evaluation by a healthcare professional is essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment. Do not hesitate to reach out to a urologist or dermatologist to address your concerns and alleviate your anxiety. Your health and peace of mind are important, and seeking help is a proactive step towards understanding and managing your symptoms.
