Frenulum problems of the glans?

Hello, doctor.
Today while showering, I suddenly noticed that there seem to be pimples on both sides of the frenulum of the glans, one of which is less noticeable.
Currently, there is no discomfort.
I would like to ask what condition this might be.
I haven't had sexual intercourse for five years, only masturbation, and I always clean myself properly.
If there are any changes, such as bleeding or enlargement, should I see a urologist? Or should I seek medical attention now?

Tian, 30~39 year old female. Ask Date: 2022/12/09

Dr. Du Shixi reply Urology

Hello: If there is an increase in size, quantity, or redness, please seek medical attention.
Currently, keep the area clean and dry, and make sure to dry it if it gets wet.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to issues related to the frenulum, particularly concerning the appearance of bumps or lesions on the glans or the frenulum itself, it is essential to approach the situation with caution and awareness of potential underlying conditions. The frenulum is a sensitive area, and any changes in its appearance can be concerning.
From your description, it seems that you have noticed small bumps on either side of the frenulum, with one being less pronounced than the other. While it is reassuring that you are not experiencing any discomfort or other symptoms at this time, it is still important to consider a few factors before deciding whether to seek urological care.

1. Possible Conditions: The bumps you are observing could be benign, such as pearly penile papules, which are common and harmless. However, they could also indicate other conditions such as folliculitis, which is an inflammation of the hair follicles, or even sexually transmitted infections (STIs) if there has been any exposure. Given that you have not engaged in sexual activity for five years, the likelihood of STIs may be lower, but it is still a consideration.

2. Monitoring Changes: It is wise to monitor the bumps for any changes. If they begin to grow in size, change in color, or if you start to experience symptoms such as pain, itching, bleeding, or discharge, these would be clear indicators that you should seek medical attention.
3. When to Seek Care: You should consider visiting a urologist if:
- The bumps increase in size or number.

- You notice any bleeding or discharge from the area.

- You experience any pain or discomfort.

- There are changes in your sexual function or sensation.

- You have any other concerning symptoms, such as fever or systemic symptoms.

4. Importance of Hygiene: Maintaining good hygiene is crucial, especially in sensitive areas. Regular cleaning can help prevent infections and other complications. However, be cautious with the use of harsh soaps or chemicals that could irritate the skin.

5. Consultation: If you are feeling anxious about the changes you have observed, it is perfectly acceptable to consult a urologist for peace of mind. They can provide a thorough examination and, if necessary, perform tests to rule out any serious conditions.

In summary, while the presence of bumps on the frenulum may not be immediately alarming, it is essential to remain vigilant. Monitoring for changes and seeking medical advice if any concerning symptoms arise is the best course of action. If you feel uncertain or anxious about the situation, do not hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional for guidance. Early intervention can often lead to better outcomes and alleviate concerns.

Your explanation does not clearly describe the actual situation. However, based on your main statement, I think you should still see a urologist for an examination and discuss it with the physician. I recommend visiting the male urology department at a major hospital.
