Can I get pregnant?

Hello, Doctor: My last menstrual period was on November 14, and my cycles are usually quite regular.
I should have started today (December 12), but I haven't, so I'm feeling a bit anxious.
During intimate activities with my boyfriend, we engaged in external rubbing (for less than three minutes).
He was wearing underwear, but there was some pre-ejaculate fluid.
I wasn't wearing underwear, but I also had some discharge.
I would like to ask if there is a possibility of pregnancy in this situation.
Thank you, Doctor.

Hello, based on your description, the chances of pregnancy are low, but not impossible.
As long as there are active sperm present in the vagina during the ovulation period, there is still a possibility of pregnancy through any means.
Even if intercourse occurs without ejaculation, there is still a chance of conception, as pre-ejaculatory fluid may contain sperm.
It is recommended to check for pregnancy if your period is more than a week late.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

When it comes to the possibility of pregnancy, understanding the mechanics of conception is crucial. Based on your description, you had your last menstrual period on November 14, and you typically have a regular cycle. If your period is late, it can understandably cause anxiety, especially if you've engaged in intimate contact.

In your case, you mentioned that the intimate contact involved external friction and that your boyfriend was wearing underwear. While the risk of pregnancy from this type of contact is significantly lower than from penetrative intercourse, it is not entirely absent. Pre-ejaculatory fluid, or pre-cum, can contain sperm, and if it comes into contact with the vaginal area, there is a small chance of sperm entering the vagina and leading to pregnancy.
The likelihood of pregnancy from the scenario you described is relatively low but not impossible. Factors that can influence this risk include the timing of your menstrual cycle, the presence of viable sperm in the pre-ejaculatory fluid, and the proximity of your ovulation period. If you have a regular cycle, ovulation typically occurs around 14 days before your next expected period. If you had intimate contact close to your ovulation window, the risk of pregnancy increases.

If your period is late, the most reliable way to determine if you are pregnant is to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are designed to detect the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is produced shortly after a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. For the most accurate results, it's best to wait until at least the first day of your missed period to take the test.

Regarding your concerns about the potential effects of alcohol consumption if you are pregnant, it is important to note that alcohol can have harmful effects on fetal development, especially in the early stages of pregnancy. If you suspect you might be pregnant, it is advisable to stop consuming alcohol and consult with a healthcare provider for further guidance.

In summary, while the risk of pregnancy from the situation you described is low, it is not zero. If your period does not arrive soon, taking a pregnancy test will provide clarity. If you have further concerns or experience any unusual symptoms, please reach out to a healthcare professional for personalized advice and support.
