Diarrhea for two weeks?
Hello, doctor.
I started experiencing frequent watery stools since last Thursday, going to the bathroom about three to four times.
Then, last Tuesday, I went to a nearby gastroenterology clinic for an ultrasound.
During the examination, they said I had severe bloating in my intestines and prescribed medication for three days.
They advised me to rest my digestive system for a week, only eating congee, and for the first three days, I couldn't eat meat or drink coffee, so I only had congee for over a week.
A couple of days ago, I started sneaking in some cake and coffee, and last night I had braised pork rice.
However, my bowel movements have been a bit better, with only one instance of loose stools in the morning.
Since I used to feel the urge to go to the bathroom frequently and had watery stools more than three times a day, I feel like I'm doing much better now.
I'm not sure if I still need to return to the clinic for medication.
Additionally, I had surgery to remove most of my small intestine when I was a child, which made me prone to diarrhea.
I've been more normal as I've grown up and don't experience diarrhea as often.

More Info
When experiencing two weeks of diarrhea, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely and determine whether further medical advice is necessary. Based on your description, it seems that you have already sought medical attention by visiting a gastroenterology clinic, where you underwent an ultrasound and received medication for your condition. You mentioned that your symptoms have improved, and you are now experiencing less frequent bowel movements, which is a positive sign. However, there are several factors to consider before deciding whether to return to the clinic for further evaluation.
Firstly, it is crucial to assess the nature of your diarrhea. If your stools have transitioned from watery to a more formed consistency, this indicates that your gastrointestinal system may be recovering. However, if you experience any recurrence of watery diarrhea, especially if accompanied by other symptoms such as fever, severe abdominal pain, or blood in your stool, it is advisable to seek medical attention promptly. These could be signs of an underlying infection or other gastrointestinal issues that may require further investigation.
Secondly, considering your medical history of having undergone surgery on your small intestine, it is essential to be vigilant about any changes in your bowel habits. Individuals with a history of intestinal surgery may be more susceptible to complications such as bowel obstructions or changes in gut flora, which can lead to diarrhea. If you notice any unusual symptoms, such as persistent abdominal pain, bloating, or changes in appetite, it would be prudent to consult your healthcare provider.
Additionally, you mentioned that you have started reintroducing certain foods into your diet, such as cake and coffee, after a period of eating bland foods like rice porridge. While it is generally acceptable to gradually reintroduce foods, it is essential to do so cautiously. Some individuals may find that certain foods can trigger gastrointestinal upset, especially after a period of dietary restriction. If you notice that specific foods exacerbate your symptoms, it may be beneficial to avoid them and stick to a bland diet until your gastrointestinal system stabilizes.
In summary, while your symptoms appear to be improving, it is essential to remain vigilant. If you experience any recurrence of severe symptoms or if your condition does not continue to improve, it would be wise to return to your healthcare provider for further evaluation. They may recommend additional tests or treatments to ensure that your gastrointestinal health is on the right track. Always listen to your body, and do not hesitate to seek medical advice if you feel uncertain about your symptoms or health status. Your well-being is paramount, and proactive management of your health can lead to better outcomes.
