Is it still possible to get pregnant under these circumstances?
Hello, doctor.
Last November 21st, I had sexual intercourse (with a condom, and I checked for any damage afterward).
My period was supposed to arrive around December 21st, but it still hasn't come.
During this time, I took a home pregnancy test on December 24th and also had a pregnancy test done by a doctor on December 30th, both of which showed negative results (neither was done with the first morning urine).
On the evening of January 5th, I tested again, and then on January 6th, I tested once more (using the first morning urine, which also showed negative).
Therefore, on January 9th, I took the medication prescribed by the doctor, Provera 5mg, for five days from January 9th to January 14th.
Today is the fourth day after stopping the medication, and my period still hasn't arrived.
I've been experiencing some lower back pain and slight discomfort in my lower abdomen over the past couple of days, but I'm not sure if this is a sign that my period is coming.
I would like to ask the doctor if there is still a possibility of being pregnant.

Hello, it is likely that you are not pregnant.
It is normal for your period to come about a week after taking menstrual induction medication.
Just wait a few more days and see what happens.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
It sounds like you are experiencing a complex situation regarding your menstrual cycle and potential pregnancy. Based on the information you provided, let's break down the key points and explore the possibilities.
First, you mentioned that you had unprotected sexual intercourse during the week of November 21, and your period was expected around December 21. However, you have not had your period since then, which is a significant delay. You have taken multiple pregnancy tests, both at home and through your doctor, all of which have returned negative results. Additionally, you have taken the medication Provera (medroxyprogesterone) as prescribed by your doctor to induce your period, but you still have not seen any signs of menstruation.
Given these circumstances, let's address the question of whether pregnancy is still possible despite the negative tests and delayed period.
1. Timing of Tests: The accuracy of home pregnancy tests is generally high, especially when taken after a missed period. However, the timing of the test is crucial. Tests are most accurate when taken with the first morning urine, as this sample contains the highest concentration of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), the hormone detected by pregnancy tests. If you have consistently tested negative with first-morning urine samples, the likelihood of pregnancy diminishes.
2. Possible Causes of Delayed Period: There are several reasons for a delayed period aside from pregnancy. Stress, hormonal imbalances, significant weight changes, and underlying medical conditions (such as polycystic ovary syndrome or thyroid disorders) can all affect your menstrual cycle. Since you mentioned experiencing some lower abdominal discomfort, it could be related to hormonal fluctuations or other non-pregnancy-related issues.
3. Cryptic Pregnancy: While cryptic pregnancies (where a woman is unaware of her pregnancy until much later) are rare, they can occur. However, they typically involve some signs of pregnancy, such as missed periods or pregnancy symptoms. Given that you have had negative tests and no clear signs of pregnancy, this scenario seems less likely in your case.
4. Next Steps: Since you have already taken Provera to induce your period without results, it would be advisable to follow up with your healthcare provider. They may recommend further evaluation, such as blood tests to check hormone levels, an ultrasound to assess your reproductive organs, or other diagnostic tests to determine the underlying cause of your delayed period.
5. Emotional and Physical Well-being: It’s important to consider your emotional health during this time. The uncertainty surrounding your menstrual cycle and potential pregnancy can be stressful. Ensure you are taking care of yourself, and don’t hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional for support and guidance.
In conclusion, while the possibility of pregnancy cannot be entirely ruled out without further testing, the consistent negative results and the lack of menstruation suggest that other factors may be at play. Consulting with your healthcare provider for a comprehensive evaluation will provide clarity and help you understand the next steps to take. Remember, you are not alone in this, and there are resources available to support you through this experience.
