Progesterone in Pregnancy
Hello! My period started on January 5 and ended on January 9.
I saw a doctor who prescribed a 7-day ovulation medication.
On January 14, I had an ovulation check and was advised to have intercourse on the 14th and 16th.
On January 19, I returned for a follow-up ultrasound and was prescribed progesterone for 3 days, to be taken morning and evening, to assist with pregnancy.
I would like to know if this will help with conception?

Yes, it is indeed helpful, but it needs to be combined with monitoring the size of the follicles to accurately determine the ovulation day.

Progesterone plays a crucial role in supporting pregnancy, particularly after ovulation. When a woman ovulates, the ruptured follicle transforms into the corpus luteum, which produces progesterone. This hormone is essential for preparing the uterine lining for potential implantation of a fertilized egg. If implantation occurs, progesterone helps maintain the pregnancy by preventing the uterine muscles from contracting and by supporting the developing embryo.
In your case, since you have been prescribed progesterone after ovulation, it indicates that your doctor is taking proactive steps to support your potential pregnancy. The use of progesterone supplements, such as the one you mentioned, can indeed help increase the chances of successful implantation and reduce the risk of early miscarriage, especially in women who may have a history of progesterone deficiency or recurrent pregnancy loss.
The timing of your treatment is also significant. You mentioned that you had ovulation around January 14 and were prescribed progesterone shortly after. This is a common practice, as progesterone should be administered during the luteal phase of your menstrual cycle, which is the time between ovulation and the start of your next period. By taking progesterone during this phase, you are providing your body with the necessary support to maintain a healthy uterine environment for a fertilized egg to implant and grow.
It is important to follow your doctor's instructions regarding the dosage and duration of progesterone use. Typically, progesterone is taken until a pregnancy test confirms whether or not you are pregnant. If you do become pregnant, your doctor may recommend continuing progesterone for several weeks to ensure that the pregnancy is stable.
In addition to progesterone supplementation, there are other factors that can influence your chances of conception. These include maintaining a healthy lifestyle, managing stress, and ensuring that you are in good overall health. Factors such as age, weight, and underlying medical conditions can also play a role in fertility and pregnancy outcomes.
If you have concerns about the use of progesterone or any other medications, it is essential to discuss them with your healthcare provider. They can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and current situation. Additionally, if you experience any unusual symptoms or side effects while taking progesterone, you should contact your doctor promptly.
In summary, progesterone can indeed help with pregnancy after ovulation by supporting the uterine lining and creating a favorable environment for implantation. Your doctor's decision to prescribe it indicates a proactive approach to enhancing your chances of conception. Remember to maintain open communication with your healthcare provider throughout this process to ensure the best possible outcomes for you and your potential pregnancy.
