Can ejaculation during menstruation lead to pregnancy?

I had unprotected intercourse on December 8 and took emergency contraception on December 9.
My period started from December 10 to 14.
I experienced light bleeding that was pink in color from December 6 to December 9.
I'm unsure if this was bleeding or my period.
I had unprotected intercourse on December 6 and December 10.
Could I be pregnant?

The question of whether one can get pregnant from intercourse during their period is a common concern, and it involves understanding the menstrual cycle, ovulation, and the viability of sperm.

To begin with, the menstrual cycle typically lasts about 28 days, but it can vary from person to person. Ovulation usually occurs around the midpoint of the cycle, approximately 14 days before the next expected period. However, sperm can live inside the female reproductive tract for up to five days. This means that if you have intercourse towards the end of your period, and you ovulate shortly after, there is a possibility that sperm could still be viable and lead to pregnancy.

In your case, you mentioned having unprotected intercourse on December 8 and then taking emergency contraception (the "morning-after pill") on December 9. Emergency contraception is most effective when taken as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse, ideally within 72 hours. Since you took it the day after intercourse, you maximized your chances of preventing pregnancy.

You also noted that you experienced bleeding from December 10 to 14, which you described as being light and pinkish. This could be a result of your menstrual period, or it could be breakthrough bleeding, which can sometimes occur after taking emergency contraception. The timing of your bleeding suggests that it could be your regular period, especially since it started shortly after taking the emergency contraceptive.

Given that you had unprotected intercourse just before your expected period and took emergency contraception, the likelihood of pregnancy is reduced significantly. However, no contraceptive method is 100% effective, and if you are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, it would be wise to take a pregnancy test if your next period is late or if you experience any unusual symptoms.

In summary, while it is possible to conceive from intercourse during your period, the combination of having taken emergency contraception and the timing of your menstrual bleeding makes it less likely in your situation. If you have further concerns or if your menstrual cycle does not return to normal, consulting with a healthcare provider would be advisable for personalized guidance and support.
