Abdominal bloating after sexual intercourse?

Hello Doctor: Four days ago, I had my first sexual intercourse with my boyfriend.
The process went relatively smoothly, but it was quite painful during the initial penetration.
After resting for a while, we engaged in sexual intercourse a second and third time, and there was also another encounter the following day.
I did not experience orgasm during any of these four times, and afterward, my abdomen felt sore and bloated, but there was no pain or bleeding—just a feeling of heaviness.
My bones also felt achy, and I noticed that my abdomen seemed to be larger, as if something was pushing inside.
I can distinctly feel something lodged about 3 centimeters below my left rib cage, and it feels slightly hard to the touch.
I would like to know if this situation is normal and if it will improve over time.
Additionally, is it safe to engage in sexual intercourse again in the short term? Thank you, Doctor.

Post-sexual activity bloating can be a common experience for many individuals, especially after engaging in sexual intercourse for the first time or after multiple sessions in a short period. It is essential to understand the body's responses during and after sexual activity, as well as to differentiate between normal sensations and those that may require medical attention.

Firstly, the feeling of bloating or discomfort in the abdomen after sexual activity can be attributed to several factors. During sexual intercourse, especially for the first time, the body undergoes various physiological changes. The pelvic muscles may tense up, and there can be increased blood flow to the pelvic area, which can lead to sensations of fullness or pressure. Additionally, if there is any form of anxiety or nervousness associated with the experience, this can also contribute to muscle tension and discomfort.

The sensation of having something "stuck" or feeling hard in the abdomen, particularly near the left rib area, could be related to several benign causes. It might be due to gas buildup in the intestines, which can occur after sexual activity, especially if there was a lot of movement or if the individual was tense. This gas can create a feeling of bloating and pressure. Another possibility is that the sensation could be related to the normal anatomical structures of the abdomen, such as the intestines or other organs, which can sometimes be more noticeable after physical activity.

It is also important to note that if you did not experience any pain, bleeding, or significant discomfort during or after the sexual activity, it is likely that your body is simply adjusting to the new experiences. However, if the bloating persists, worsens, or is accompanied by other symptoms such as severe pain, changes in bowel habits, or any unusual discharge, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation.

Regarding the question of whether it is safe to engage in sexual activity again shortly after experiencing these symptoms, it largely depends on how you feel. If the bloating and discomfort have subsided and you feel comfortable, there is generally no medical reason to avoid sexual activity. However, if you still feel bloated or uncomfortable, it might be wise to wait until you feel back to your normal state before engaging in sexual intercourse again.

In summary, post-sexual activity bloating can be a normal response to the physical and emotional experiences associated with sex. It is essential to listen to your body and monitor any changes in symptoms. If you have any concerns or if the sensations do not improve, seeking medical advice is always a prudent choice. Remember, open communication with your partner about your experiences and feelings can also enhance your comfort and enjoyment during sexual activity.

Use more lubricants such as K-Y Jelly. The labia may become engorged when excited, but this should subside after a while. If it persists, consider consulting a gynecologist for an examination.
