Erectile dysfunction
I have a question: When I have an erection, my penis takes on a shape that is close to an inverted triangle, but the lower angle (the side near the scrotum) is not very firm.
I haven't paid much attention to this before, so I'm not sure if it has always been this way.
The upper part looks normal.
I'm uncertain if this is a problem.
Thank you, doctor.

Hello: It's difficult to assess what "not too hard" means in terms of severity.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to the shape of the penis during an erection, variations can occur, and many of them are completely normal. The penis can take on different shapes and sizes due to a variety of factors, including anatomical differences, blood flow, and the elasticity of the tissues involved.
In your case, you mentioned that your penis appears to take on a shape resembling an inverted triangle when erect, with the base near the scrotum being less firm. This observation can be concerning, especially if it is a new development or if you have not previously noticed it. However, it is important to understand that the penis is made up of spongy erectile tissue that fills with blood during an erection, and this process can sometimes lead to variations in firmness and shape.
The fact that the upper part of your penis appears normal while the lower part is less firm could be attributed to several factors. One possibility is that the erectile tissue in that area may not be filling with blood as effectively as it should, which could lead to a softer area. This could be due to a variety of reasons, including psychological factors, physical health issues, or even just natural anatomical variation.
If this is a new change, it might be worth considering whether there have been any changes in your overall health, stress levels, or lifestyle that could be contributing to this. Conditions such as anxiety, depression, or even fatigue can impact erectile function and the overall firmness of the penis. Additionally, factors like smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and lack of physical activity can also affect blood flow and erectile function.
It is also important to consider the possibility of Peyronie's disease, a condition characterized by the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis, which can cause curvature and changes in shape during an erection. However, this condition typically presents with other symptoms, such as pain or significant curvature, so it may not be applicable in your case.
If you are feeling concerned about the shape of your penis during an erection, it would be advisable to consult with a healthcare professional, such as a urologist. They can perform a thorough examination and may recommend tests to rule out any underlying conditions. It is crucial to address any concerns you may have, as sexual health is an important aspect of overall well-being.
In summary, variations in the shape and firmness of the penis during an erection can be normal, but if you notice significant changes or if it is causing you distress, seeking medical advice is the best course of action. A healthcare professional can provide reassurance, identify any potential issues, and suggest appropriate treatment options if necessary. Remember, open communication with your doctor about any concerns regarding sexual health is essential for maintaining both physical and mental well-being.
