Is it possible to get pregnant during menstruation?

Hello Doctor: I am 36 years old and my menstrual cycle usually starts on the 7th, 8th, 9th, or 10th of each month, lasting about 3 days.
For the past six months, I have been trying to conceive (taking ovulation medication and progesterone).
However, this month, I did not get my period by March 12, so I went back to receive fertility injections, and my period started around the 21st.
Additionally, I have experienced galactorrhea in the past few months with a level of 42.
The doctor did not provide any treatment for it.
On the 20th, I had blood tests for liver function and prolactin levels, which were 128.5.
I then went to another large hospital, where the doctor ordered hormone tests and drew four vials of blood.
Since the 26th, I have been experiencing morning nausea, and out of curiosity, I took a pregnancy test, which showed one very dark line and one faint line.
Is it possible that I am pregnant?

It is indeed possible to become pregnant even with irregular menstrual cycles, although it may present some challenges. Irregular cycles can be caused by various factors, including hormonal imbalances, stress, weight fluctuations, and underlying medical conditions. In your case, it seems you have been actively trying to conceive with the assistance of ovulation medications and hormone treatments, which indicates that you are taking steps to manage your reproductive health.

When it comes to irregular menstrual cycles, the key factor is ovulation. Women with irregular cycles may not ovulate consistently, which can make it more difficult to predict fertile windows. However, with the use of ovulation induction medications, such as Clomid or letrozole, and hormone treatments, you can increase your chances of ovulating and conceiving. The fact that you have been using these medications suggests that your healthcare provider is monitoring your ovulation and hormone levels, which is crucial for optimizing your chances of pregnancy.

Regarding your recent experience with a missed period and subsequent symptoms of nausea, it is certainly possible that you could be pregnant. The presence of two lines on a pregnancy test, even if one is faint, typically indicates pregnancy. The darker line represents the presence of the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. If you have any doubts, it would be advisable to follow up with a healthcare provider for a blood test, which can provide a more definitive answer regarding your pregnancy status.

Additionally, you mentioned having a history of galactorrhea (milk secretion) and elevated prolactin levels. High prolactin can interfere with ovulation and menstrual cycles, making it more challenging to conceive. It is essential to address this issue with your healthcare provider, as they may recommend further evaluation and treatment options to normalize your prolactin levels. This could involve medications such as bromocriptine or cabergoline, which can help lower prolactin levels and restore normal menstrual function.

In summary, while irregular menstrual cycles can complicate the process of conception, it is still possible to become pregnant, especially with the help of fertility treatments. If you suspect you might be pregnant, consider scheduling an appointment with your healthcare provider for confirmation and to discuss any necessary next steps. They can also provide guidance on managing your hormonal health and any other factors that may influence your fertility. Remember, maintaining open communication with your healthcare team is vital in navigating your reproductive health journey.
