Is it menstruation?
The menstrual cycle is approximately 31-35 days, with the last menstrual period starting on February 22.
On March 25, my boyfriend did not wear protection while I was wearing sweatpants, and he thrust a few times, but he assured me there was no bodily fluid.
On March 27, we had sexual intercourse using a condom, and afterward, I performed a water test for the condom.
On the evening of March 28, around 9 PM, I experienced bleeding that was bright red in color, but the amount was less compared to previous bleeding.
I am unsure if this is related to the cough and cold medication I took from March 12 to March 18.
Thank you.
Y, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2023/03/28

Hello, the failure rate of correctly using condoms throughout is still over 5%, which is less reliable compared to other methods.
Bleeding may be due to hormonal imbalance or an early onset of menstruation; however, bleeding can also occur in the early stages of pregnancy or around implantation.
Therefore, it is recommended to check for pregnancy if menstruation has not occurred for more than a week.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

When it comes to irregular bleeding after sexual activity, it is essential to consider several factors that could contribute to this phenomenon. Based on your description, it seems that you experienced bright red bleeding following sexual intercourse, which raises questions about its origin and whether it is related to menstruation or potential injury.
Firstly, it is important to understand that irregular bleeding can occur for various reasons, including hormonal fluctuations, physical trauma, or even infections. In your case, the timing of the bleeding—occurring shortly after sexual activity—suggests that it may not be related to your menstrual cycle, especially since you mentioned that your last period was on February 22nd and the bleeding occurred on March 28th. This timeframe indicates that you are likely not in your menstrual phase, as your cycle typically ranges from 31 to 35 days.
One possible explanation for the bleeding could be minor trauma to the vaginal walls or cervix during sexual activity. Even with the use of a condom and lubrication, friction can sometimes lead to small tears or abrasions, especially if there was any vigorous movement or if the vaginal tissues were not adequately lubricated. This type of injury can result in bright red bleeding, which may be accompanied by discomfort or a sensation of irritation.
Another consideration is the impact of any medications you may have taken, such as the cough and cold medicine you mentioned. Certain medications can affect hormonal balance or blood clotting, potentially leading to unexpected bleeding. However, without specific details about the medication, it is difficult to ascertain its direct influence on your situation.
If the bleeding is light and resolves quickly, it may not be a cause for concern. However, if you experience persistent bleeding, increased pain, or any other unusual symptoms, it is crucial to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider can perform a thorough examination to rule out any underlying conditions, such as infections or more significant injuries.
In terms of what constitutes abnormal bleeding, it is generally considered concerning if bleeding lasts longer than a few days, is accompanied by severe pain, or occurs frequently outside of your expected menstrual cycle. If you notice any of these symptoms, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional for further evaluation.
In summary, while the bleeding you experienced could be attributed to minor trauma during sexual activity, it is essential to monitor your symptoms closely. If the bleeding persists or if you have any concerns about your reproductive health, do not hesitate to reach out to a healthcare provider for personalized advice and care. Remember, maintaining open communication with your partner about comfort levels during sexual activity can also help prevent potential injuries in the future.
