Can a penis touching the vulva during an erection while taking a shower lead to pregnancy?

On April 14, I took a shower with my girlfriend.
I was standing behind her, applying body wash and gently touching her genital area (without using the shower head).
During this time, I intentionally avoided direct contact with her sexual organs.
However, my penis (which was erect and likely had pre-ejaculate fluid) accidentally slipped between her legs and may have briefly made contact with her vulva, but there was no penetration.
Afterward, we rinsed off the soap, and later I checked my basal body temperature records and found that it was likely her ovulation period that day.
Should I be concerned about the possibility of pregnancy?

The concern about the possibility of pregnancy from contact during ovulation, particularly in the scenario you described, is understandable. To address your question, it is important to consider several factors regarding how pregnancy occurs and the specifics of your situation.

Pregnancy typically occurs when sperm fertilizes an egg, which can happen during ovulation when an egg is released from the ovary. Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days, which means that if intercourse occurs in the days leading up to or on the day of ovulation, there is a chance of conception.

In your case, the interaction you described involved some degree of contact between your penis and your girlfriend's genital area, albeit without penetration. While this contact was brief and you were attempting to avoid direct contact, it is still possible for sperm to be present in pre-ejaculatory fluid (pre-cum). This fluid can contain sperm, although the concentration is generally lower than that found in ejaculate. If any sperm were present in the pre-ejaculatory fluid and made contact with her vaginal area, there is a potential, albeit small, risk of pregnancy.

Given that you mentioned this occurred during her ovulation period, the risk of pregnancy is heightened. However, the likelihood of conception from such indirect contact is generally lower than from direct intercourse. Factors such as the amount of sperm present, the timing of ovulation, and the overall fertility of both partners play significant roles in determining the actual risk of pregnancy.

If you are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, it may be advisable for your girlfriend to take a home pregnancy test if her period is late or if she experiences any symptoms of pregnancy. Home pregnancy tests are designed to detect the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced after a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. Testing is most accurate when done after a missed period.

In summary, while there is a possibility of pregnancy from the scenario you described, the risk is relatively low compared to direct intercourse. If either of you has further concerns or if your girlfriend experiences any unusual symptoms, consulting with a healthcare provider would be a prudent step. They can provide personalized advice and discuss options for contraception or further testing if needed.
