Erectile dysfunction

Hello doctor, I am currently in the 9th grade.
I started masturbating during the summer break between 5th and 6th grade.
At first, I did it almost once a day, and by middle school, I managed to control it to 1-2 times a week.
There were no issues until I was in 2nd grade of middle school when I started receiving a hormone-inhibiting injection called Daphilin due to rapid bone age growth.
At that time, I didn't experience morning erections and had little semen, but I could still achieve an erection while masturbating.
The doctor said that after stopping the injections for three months, everything would return to normal.
I stopped the injections at the end of September last year, and things did return to normal.
However, in mid-January of this year, I caught a cold, and since then, the frequency of my morning erections has decreased.
After masturbating, I often don't have morning erections for 1-2 days.
During the Qingming Festival holiday, I masturbated four out of five days, and afterward, it became even harder for me to have morning erections (though I would have them on the day I masturbated).
Additionally, the firmness of my erections seems to only reach the level of a soft banana, and I have to exert effort for it to feel like a cucumber.
Is my worsening condition due to excessive masturbation, or is it just the pressure from the upcoming exams? Is there still hope for me?

Hello: Please discuss with the outpatient physician.
I do not have clinical experience.
Regarding morning erections, they can be related to many factors, making it difficult to assess.
Currently, it is important to pay attention to sleep, maintain a healthy diet and exercise, ensure adequate hydration, and control body weight.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding erection issues, especially in teenagers, can be complex and multifaceted. Your situation involves several factors, including hormonal changes, psychological stress, and physical health, which can all contribute to the difficulties you are experiencing.

Firstly, it's important to recognize that hormonal fluctuations during adolescence are normal. The use of medication like Daphilin, which you mentioned, can temporarily affect hormone levels and subsequently impact sexual function, including erections. After stopping the medication, it is common for the body to take some time to readjust and for normal physiological functions, such as morning erections (morning wood), to return. The fact that you experienced a return to normal function after stopping the medication is a positive sign.

However, you also mentioned experiencing a cold and a subsequent decrease in the frequency of morning erections. Illness can temporarily affect your body in various ways, including your sexual health. Stress, particularly related to exams or significant life events, can also play a significant role in sexual function. Anxiety and stress can lead to a decrease in libido and affect your ability to achieve or maintain an erection. This is often referred to as performance anxiety, which can create a cycle of worry that exacerbates the issue.

Regarding your concerns about masturbation frequency, it is a common myth that frequent masturbation can lead to erectile dysfunction. In reality, masturbation is a normal sexual activity and, for most people, does not cause long-term issues with erections. However, if you find that you are engaging in it excessively to the point where it interferes with your daily life or causes distress, it may be worth considering moderation.
The sensation of your erections feeling less firm (like a "banana" rather than a "cucumber") can be influenced by several factors, including psychological stress, physical health, and even fatigue. It’s essential to approach this with a mindset of understanding rather than panic.
Here are some steps you can take to address your concerns:
1. Consult a Healthcare Professional: It’s crucial to speak with a doctor who specializes in adolescent health or urology. They can provide a thorough evaluation and determine if there are any underlying medical issues that need to be addressed.

2. Manage Stress: Since you mentioned that exam pressure might be a factor, consider implementing stress management techniques. This could include regular physical activity, mindfulness practices, or talking to someone about your feelings, whether that be a trusted adult, friend, or counselor.

3. Healthy Lifestyle Choices: Ensure you are maintaining a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and engaging in regular physical activity. These factors can significantly influence your overall health and well-being, including sexual health.

4. Open Communication: If you feel comfortable, discuss your concerns with a trusted adult or healthcare provider. They can offer support and guidance tailored to your situation.

5. Be Patient: Remember that your body is still developing, and fluctuations in sexual function are common during this time. It may take some time for everything to normalize, especially after stopping medication and dealing with stress.

In conclusion, while it’s understandable to be concerned about changes in your sexual health, many factors can contribute to these experiences. With the right support and care, you can navigate these challenges effectively. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help; you are not alone in this journey.
