Is a pregnancy test accurate 12 days after conception?
On April 29, there was external rubbing but no penetration.
The last menstrual period was from April 12 to April 18.
Although the period has not yet arrived, I am still very worried, so I took a pregnancy test on May 10 (urine test) and it showed one line (I drank water before the test).
I'm not sure if this result is accurate.
Should I be concerned about pregnancy? Thank you, doctor.

Hello, the questioner: There is a possibility of pregnancy even if ejaculation has not occurred during intercourse, as pre-ejaculatory fluid may contain sperm.
It is recommended to check for pregnancy if your period is more than a week late for more accurate results.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

More Info
When it comes to pregnancy testing, timing and method are crucial for obtaining accurate results. Based on the information provided, you engaged in sexual activity on April 29, and your last menstrual period was from April 12 to April 18. You conducted a urine pregnancy test on May 10, which was 12 days after the intercourse.
Generally, it is recommended to wait at least two weeks after potential conception to take a pregnancy test for the most reliable results. This is because it takes time for the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) to build up in the body if pregnancy has occurred. Testing too early can lead to a false negative result, meaning the test indicates you are not pregnant when you actually are.
In your case, since you tested 12 days after intercourse, it is on the cusp of being an appropriate time to test. However, it is important to note that if you had consumed a significant amount of water before the test, it could dilute your urine, potentially affecting the concentration of hCG and leading to an inaccurate result. Ideally, testing with first morning urine is recommended because it is typically more concentrated and can provide a more accurate reading.
Regarding your concern about the possibility of pregnancy, if the test result showed one line (negative), it generally indicates that you are not pregnant. However, if you are still worried, it might be prudent to wait a few more days and take another test, preferably using first morning urine, or consult with a healthcare provider for further evaluation.
Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that the method of intercourse you described (external rubbing without penetration) carries a lower risk of pregnancy compared to unprotected vaginal intercourse. However, there is still a minimal risk if pre-ejaculate fluid comes into contact with the vaginal area, as it can contain sperm.
In summary, while testing 12 days after intercourse can provide some insight, it is not the most definitive timing. If you have any lingering doubts or if your period does not arrive as expected, consider retesting a few days later or consulting a healthcare professional for further guidance. Remember, stress and anxiety about potential pregnancy can also affect your menstrual cycle, so it's essential to take care of your mental well-being during this time.
