After getting fixed dentures, dental floss cannot fit in?

After getting fixed dentures and returning home, I found that I couldn't use dental floss.
The dentist did not test with dental floss during the appointment, and since the front tooth of the denture is an implant, I didn't notice anything unusual at the time.
Can a normal gap be created between the teeth even if the dentures are already permanently bonded? Or is this a normal situation? Thank you, doctor.

Hello: It is recommended to return to the clinic as soon as possible for the dentist to confirm whether it is a single crown.
If it is a single crown, dental floss should be able to pass through the interproximal surfaces of both adjacent teeth.
If it is connected to an anterior implant to form a bridge, then super floss will be necessary for cleaning the bridge.

When it comes to fixed dentures, particularly those that are cemented in place, managing the gaps between teeth can be a significant concern for many patients. After receiving fixed dentures, it is not uncommon to experience tight gaps or spaces that make it difficult to use dental floss effectively. This situation can lead to discomfort and potential oral health issues if not addressed properly.

Firstly, it’s important to understand that fixed dentures, including dental implants, are designed to restore function and aesthetics to your smile. However, the fit and spacing can vary based on the individual’s dental anatomy and the precision of the dental work performed. If you find that dental floss cannot pass through the gaps between your fixed dentures, it may indicate that the spacing is too tight or that the contours of the dentures do not allow for proper cleaning.

In your case, since the front tooth of your fixed denture is an implant, it’s crucial to ensure that the surrounding teeth and the implant itself are adequately cleaned to prevent plaque buildup, which can lead to gum disease and other complications. If the gaps are too tight, it may be necessary to consult your dentist about the possibility of adjusting the fit of the dentures. While the cement used to secure fixed dentures is strong, it is not impossible to make adjustments. Your dentist may be able to reshape the contours of the denture or the adjacent teeth to create a more comfortable and functional gap.

If the dentist determines that the fixed denture cannot be adjusted without compromising its integrity, they may recommend alternative cleaning methods. For instance, using interdental brushes or soft picks can help clean areas that dental floss cannot reach. These tools can effectively remove plaque and food particles from tight spaces without causing damage to the surrounding gums or teeth.

It’s also worth noting that some patients may experience a feeling of tightness or discomfort after receiving fixed dentures, especially if they are not accustomed to the new dental work. This sensation can sometimes be mistaken for an issue with the fit. If you are experiencing persistent discomfort or if the tight gaps are causing bleeding or irritation, it is essential to return to your dentist for a follow-up appointment. They can assess the situation and determine if further intervention is needed.

In summary, while it is possible to adjust fixed dentures to create more comfortable gaps, it is essential to consult with your dentist to explore your options. Regular follow-up appointments are crucial to ensure that your dental work remains functional and comfortable. Additionally, maintaining good oral hygiene practices, including using appropriate cleaning tools for tight spaces, will help keep your mouth healthy and prevent complications. If you have concerns about the fit of your dentures or the health of your gums, do not hesitate to reach out to your dental care provider for guidance and support.
