Masturbation, sexual desire, and phimosis issues?
Hello, Doctor! I am currently a high school sophomore preparing for the university entrance exam.
During my time in high school, I've often heard friends talk about sexual activities, and while I feel envious, I can't help but reflect on myself.
I realize that I don't have much desire to seek out sexual encounters, and I also don't really know how to masturbate! I've looked up a lot of information online, and it seems that many people start masturbating around the fourth or fifth grade, but I haven't tried it yet and don't really want to.
I followed some online tutorials, but I didn't feel much (just rubbing my fingers around the glans).
Up until now, I think I've only experienced a few nocturnal emissions, and I have a problem with phimosis.
After a wet dream, I experience pain in my genital area (around the bladder) and have to urgently get up to use the bathroom, where I seem to expel both urine and semen.
I'm not sure if this is related to my phimosis.
Although the pain after a nocturnal emission is quite intense, it seems convenient that I don't mess up the bed, but the downside is that my pleasant dreams are always interrupted.
I've heard that masturbation can be very pleasurable, and I feel like I need to learn this skill.
Doctor, is my situation due to phimosis (and will it improve after circumcision), or could it be some rare condition? I'm really hoping for your response, as it's quite awkward to bring this up with my family, and it feels embarrassing to be lacking in sexual experience.
Lastly, thank you, Dr.
Du, for all your contributions on this platform; I've learned a lot from many topics!

Hello: I don't have much experience handling this kind of situation, but sexual desire varies from person to person, making it difficult to compare.
If development is normal, it may be related to psychological factors, and it would be advisable to seek medical attention when possible.
Wishing you good health.

Understanding phimosis and its impact on sexual desire and masturbation is an important topic, especially for adolescents navigating their sexual development. Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin of the penis cannot be easily retracted over the glans (the head of the penis). This condition can lead to various physical and psychological effects, particularly during the teenage years when sexual curiosity and exploration are heightened.
Firstly, it’s essential to acknowledge that sexual desire varies significantly among individuals. The fact that you do not feel a strong urge to engage in sexual activities or masturbation at this stage in your life is not inherently abnormal. Many factors influence sexual desire, including hormonal changes, psychological readiness, and personal comfort with one’s body. It’s also worth noting that sexual development occurs at different rates for everyone; some may begin exploring their sexuality earlier than others.
In your case, the presence of phimosis may contribute to your limited interest in masturbation. The discomfort or pain associated with phimosis, especially during erections or attempts to retract the foreskin, can create a negative association with sexual activities. This discomfort may deter you from exploring masturbation, which is often a natural and healthy way for individuals to learn about their bodies and sexual responses.
You mentioned experiencing pain after nocturnal emissions (dreams that lead to ejaculation during sleep), which could be related to the tightness of the foreskin. When the foreskin is unable to retract properly, it can lead to increased sensitivity and discomfort during sexual arousal, which may explain why you have not pursued masturbation further. The pain you experience could also be a result of the pressure build-up in the penis during arousal, which is exacerbated by the phimosis.
It’s important to understand that while phimosis can be a source of discomfort and may impact your sexual experiences, it is a treatable condition. Many individuals with phimosis find relief through various methods, including gentle stretching exercises, topical corticosteroids, or circumcision, depending on the severity of the condition and personal preference. Consulting with a healthcare professional, such as a urologist, can provide you with tailored advice and treatment options that suit your needs.
Regarding your curiosity about masturbation and the experiences of others, it’s essential to approach this topic with an open mind. Masturbation is a normal part of sexual development and can be a healthy way to explore your body and understand your sexual responses. If you feel comfortable, you might consider discussing your concerns with a trusted healthcare provider who can provide guidance and support in a confidential manner.
Lastly, it’s crucial to remember that everyone’s journey through sexual development is unique. There is no “right” timeline for when to start exploring sexual activities, and it’s perfectly okay to take your time. Focus on understanding your body and your feelings, and when you feel ready, you can explore these aspects of your sexuality at your own pace. If you have any further questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out for professional advice. Your health and comfort should always come first.
