Genital itching and accompanying therapies?
Hello, doctor.
I have been experiencing recurrent candidiasis and have been undergoing treatment at the clinic for about two weeks with non-steroidal oral medication and topical ointment.
I am currently on day 9 of the treatment.
I would like to ask:
1.
What is the relationship between stress and itching? I have insomnia issues, and after taking sleep medications and relaxants prescribed by my psychiatrist, the itching has somewhat alleviated.
Can stress exacerbate the itching associated with the infection?
2.
I am currently drinking 2500ml of water daily, maintaining a light diet, trying to get a full 8 hours of sleep (though my work schedule is quite busy), keeping the area ventilated and dry, and supplementing with B vitamins, vitamin C, D, and zinc.
However, the itching remains severe, especially on the clitoris and the skin above it, which feels itchy like eczema.
The doctor has only changed my ointment so far.
If the situation becomes unbearable, can I wash the affected area and apply the "Kang Ke Li" cream recommended by the gynecology clinic I visited previously?
3.
Besides sitz baths, are there other ways to relieve itching? It is inconvenient to take sitz baths when I am outside.
Thank you, doctor, for your assistance.

Hello, stress can sometimes lead to a decrease in immune function, which may cause itching, although this is less common.
It is still advisable to consult a gynecologist for treatment.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
Understanding itchy genitalia can be complex, as it often involves various factors including infections, skin conditions, and psychological influences. In your case, it seems that you are dealing with recurrent yeast infections, which can indeed cause significant discomfort and itching. Let's address your questions one by one.
1. The Relationship Between Stress and Itching: Stress can have a profound impact on your body, including your skin and immune system. When you are under stress, your body produces higher levels of cortisol, which can lead to inflammation and exacerbate existing skin conditions, including those that cause itching. Additionally, stress can weaken your immune system, making you more susceptible to infections, including yeast infections. Your observation that your itching has decreased after taking sleep aids and relaxants suggests that managing stress may help alleviate some of your symptoms. It’s important to find effective stress management techniques, such as mindfulness, yoga, or therapy, to help reduce your overall stress levels.
2. Use of "康可麗" Cream: If you are considering using a cream that was previously recommended by your gynecologist, it’s crucial to consult with your current healthcare provider before doing so. While "康可麗" (likely referring to a topical treatment) may provide relief, it’s essential to ensure that it is appropriate for your current condition and won’t interfere with your ongoing treatment. If your symptoms are severe and you feel that your current treatment is not effective, it’s advisable to reach out to your healthcare provider for further evaluation. They may need to reassess your condition and possibly prescribe a different treatment plan or medication.
3. Alternative Relief Strategies: Besides sitz baths, there are several other strategies you can employ to relieve itching. Here are a few suggestions:
- Cold Compress: Applying a cold compress to the affected area can help reduce inflammation and numb the itch.
- Avoid Irritants: Be mindful of soaps, detergents, and personal care products that may irritate the sensitive skin in the genital area. Opt for fragrance-free and hypoallergenic products.
- Loose Clothing: Wearing loose-fitting, breathable cotton underwear can help keep the area dry and reduce irritation.
- Hydration and Diet: Continue to stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet. Some individuals find that reducing sugar intake can help prevent yeast infections, as yeast thrives on sugar.
- Topical Treatments: Over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream may help reduce inflammation and itching, but it should be used sparingly and not for prolonged periods without medical advice.
In conclusion, managing itchy genitalia, especially in the context of recurrent yeast infections, requires a multifaceted approach. It’s essential to address both the physical and psychological aspects of your condition. If your symptoms persist or worsen, please consult your healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation and tailored treatment plan. Remember, you are not alone in this, and with the right support and treatment, relief is possible.
