Foreskin issues
Two months ago, I might have had some skin irritation on the left side of my foreskin due to frequent masturbation.
I stopped masturbating, but after a day or two, I woke up feeling itchy and very dry down there (the itch was so intense that I couldn't resist scratching).
I applied petroleum jelly, but it only made it itchier.
I kept scratching, and then I noticed that there were white flakes on the foreskin.
When I scratched until it didn't itch anymore, I found that there were no flakes, but the foreskin became smooth and red.
However, it started to itch when it came into contact with water, although it wasn't to the point where I had to scratch.
After drying off, it didn't itch anymore.
Then, after a day or two, the foreskin returned to its previous color, but after masturbating, there were some flakes again.
The next day, it reverted to the initial condition, and this cycle continued.
I don't feel it's very serious, and I've been a bit busy, so I haven't seen a doctor.
Could you please give me some advice? I would prefer not to see a doctor because I'm really busy.
Thank you.

Hello: I personally do not recommend using petroleum jelly.
It is advisable to seek medical attention, as delaying may lead to changes in the skin.
If you really do not want to see a doctor, please avoid DIY treatments for now.
After cleaning with water, make sure to dry the area, and keep it dry, especially if it gets wet from urine.
Maintain a light diet.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
It sounds like you're experiencing a common issue related to the foreskin, which can often be exacerbated by factors such as frequent masturbation, irritation, or even dryness. The symptoms you're describing—itchiness, dryness, and the presence of white flakes—are indicative of a condition known as balanitis, which is inflammation of the glans (the head of the penis) and can affect the foreskin as well.
Firstly, it's important to understand that the skin in the genital area is sensitive and can react to various irritants, including soaps, lotions, and even friction from sexual activity. The fact that you noticed improvement when you stopped masturbating suggests that friction may have played a role in your symptoms. However, the cycle of itching and dryness you're experiencing can lead to further irritation, creating a loop that can be difficult to break.
Here are some recommendations to help manage your symptoms:
1. Gentle Hygiene: Ensure that you are cleaning the area gently with warm water. Avoid using harsh soaps or products that may irritate the skin. If you feel the need to use soap, opt for a mild, fragrance-free option.
2. Moisturization: While you mentioned using Vaseline, which is an occlusive agent, it may not be the best choice for this area as it can trap moisture and lead to irritation. Instead, consider using a water-based moisturizer or a specialized genital moisturizer that is designed to soothe and hydrate sensitive skin.
3. Avoid Scratching: It can be tempting to scratch the itchy area, but this can lead to further irritation and even infection. Try to keep your hands away from the area as much as possible. If the itch is unbearable, consider using a cold compress to soothe the area.
4. Wear Loose Clothing: Tight clothing can exacerbate irritation. Opt for loose-fitting underwear and pants made from breathable fabrics like cotton to reduce friction and allow the area to breathe.
5. Monitor for Changes: Keep an eye on your symptoms. If you notice any changes, such as increased redness, swelling, or discharge, it may be a sign of an infection or another underlying condition that would require medical attention.
6. Consider Over-the-Counter Treatments: If the itching persists, you might consider using an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream to reduce inflammation. However, use it sparingly and not for prolonged periods, as long-term use can thin the skin.
7. Limit Irritants: Avoid any products that may irritate the area, including scented lotions, powders, or wipes. Stick to basic hygiene practices.
While it may be tempting to avoid seeing a doctor, it's important to recognize that persistent symptoms could indicate a more serious issue, such as a fungal infection, bacterial infection, or even a sexually transmitted infection (STI). If your symptoms do not improve with home care or if they worsen, it would be wise to consult a healthcare professional, even if your schedule is busy. Many clinics offer flexible hours, and addressing the issue sooner rather than later can prevent complications.
In summary, while home remedies can be effective for managing mild symptoms, it's crucial to remain vigilant about your health. If the situation does not improve, seeking medical advice is the best course of action. Your health and comfort are paramount, and a healthcare provider can offer tailored advice and treatment options that are safe and effective.
