A hard lump appears below the navel?
Hello, there is a slightly round hard lump located just below the navel (approximately 3-5 cm upon touch), which is a non-mobile mass.
Initially, it felt like a painful pimple that couldn't come to a head, and it has not resolved after five days.
At the same time, I also experienced similar painful swelling behind my ear and under my jaw (but the lumps were smaller, about 1-2 cm).
The swelling behind my ear and under my jaw has subsided recently, but the abdominal lump remains.
Currently, it does not hurt when not touched, but there is pain upon palpation.
It appears to be an internal mass with surrounding redness and swelling.
The lump was larger in the past, but its size has slightly decreased.
I am unsure how to proceed or which specialty to consult.
Thank you.

More Info
Hello! Thank you for your question regarding the hard lump located below your belly button. Based on your description, it seems that you are experiencing a localized swelling that has been persistent for about five days. The lump is firm, non-movable, and painful upon touch, while the swelling in the areas behind your ears and under your jaw has subsided.
There are several potential causes for a hard lump in the abdominal area, and it is essential to consider these possibilities to determine the appropriate course of action. Here are some common causes:
1. Hernia: A hernia occurs when an internal organ or tissue pushes through a weak spot in the abdominal wall. This can create a lump that may be painful, especially when touched or during physical activity. If the lump is associated with a hernia, it may require surgical intervention.
2. Lymphadenopathy: Swollen lymph nodes can occur due to infections or other conditions. The fact that you have experienced similar lumps behind your ears and under your jaw suggests that there may have been an infection or inflammatory response in your body.
3. Abscess: An abscess is a collection of pus that can form due to infection. It can feel firm and painful, and it may require drainage by a healthcare professional.
4. Lipoma: A lipoma is a benign tumor made of fat tissue. These are usually soft and movable, but they can sometimes feel firm depending on their location and size.
5. Cysts: Various types of cysts can form in the abdominal area, which may present as a hard lump. These can be benign but may require monitoring or treatment if they become symptomatic.
Given that the lump has not resolved on its own and is painful upon touch, it is advisable to seek medical attention. You should consider visiting a healthcare provider, preferably a general practitioner or a specialist in gastroenterology or surgery, who can perform a physical examination and possibly order imaging studies (like an ultrasound or CT scan) to better understand the nature of the lump.
In the meantime, here are some general recommendations:
- Avoid Manipulation: Try not to press or poke at the lump, as this may exacerbate any underlying condition or cause further irritation.
- Monitor Symptoms: Keep track of any changes in the lump's size, shape, or pain level. Note any additional symptoms such as fever, nausea, or changes in bowel habits, as these can provide important information to your healthcare provider.
- Pain Management: If the lump is painful, over-the-counter pain relief medications such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen may help alleviate discomfort, but consult with a healthcare provider before taking any medication.
In conclusion, while there are several potential causes for the hard lump below your belly button, it is crucial to have it evaluated by a healthcare professional to determine the exact cause and appropriate treatment. Early intervention can help prevent complications and ensure a better outcome. Thank you for reaching out, and I hope you find relief soon!
