If there is a red discoloration in the middle of the Xinna tablet, should I continue taking the medication or consult a doctor?
Hello, Doctor.
I started taking the medication Xinna for menstrual regulation in February this year.
After three months, I was informed that I was experiencing early menopause, so I began taking Xinna on a slow-release schedule.
Last month, I took it from June 7 to June 27, and my menstrual period started on July 6, eight days later, lasting from July 6 to July 12.
On July 12, which was the seventh day of my period, I started taking the first pill of Xinna again.
I missed one dose on July 17 but continued taking it daily at a fixed time.
However, I have only completed seven days of the regimen, and today I suddenly experienced bleeding similar to the first day of my period.
Should I continue taking the medication and finish the remaining 14 pills, or should I observe the flow? If it is indeed my period, should I stop taking it and wait until it clears before starting a new pack of 21 pills? Additionally, after taking Xinna continuously for five months, I have started to feel a sensation of fullness in my breasts, particularly around the nipples.
Is this a normal phenomenon? Thank you for your clarification.

Dr. Cao Guotao reply Obstetrics and Gynecology
Hello, please monitor for similar symptoms next month after finishing the medication.
If the symptoms persist, it may be necessary to change the medication.
The feeling of bloating is likely due to the medication.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to the use of Xin Na (a medication often used for regulating menstrual cycles), especially after experiencing unexpected bleeding, it is crucial to approach the situation with caution and informed decision-making. Based on your description, it seems you have been on a regimen of Xin Na for several months, and now you are experiencing an unexpected bleeding episode that resembles the first day of your menstrual cycle.
First and foremost, it is important to understand that unexpected bleeding while on hormonal medications like Xin Na can occur for various reasons. This could be due to hormonal fluctuations, missed doses, or even the body adjusting to the medication. In your case, since you mentioned missing a dose on July 17, this could potentially contribute to the unexpected bleeding you are experiencing now.
Regarding whether to continue taking Xin Na, it is generally advisable to follow the prescribed regimen unless otherwise directed by a healthcare professional. However, given that you are experiencing unexpected bleeding, it may be prudent to monitor the flow. If the bleeding resembles a typical menstrual period, you might consider pausing the medication until the bleeding resolves. Afterward, you can restart the regimen with a new pack.
It is also essential to consider the duration and heaviness of the bleeding. If it is light and resolves quickly, it may not be a cause for concern. However, if the bleeding is heavy or accompanied by severe pain, it would be wise to consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation. They may recommend an ultrasound or other diagnostic tests to rule out any underlying issues.
As for the breast tenderness you mentioned, particularly in the nipple area, this can be a common side effect of hormonal medications. Hormonal fluctuations can lead to breast tissue changes, resulting in tenderness or a feeling of fullness. While this can be a normal response to the medication, it is important to keep an eye on any changes. If the tenderness becomes severe or is accompanied by other concerning symptoms, such as lumps or discharge, you should seek medical advice.
In summary, here are the steps you might consider taking:
1. Monitor the Bleeding: Keep track of the flow and any accompanying symptoms. If it resembles a normal menstrual period, you may choose to pause the medication until it resolves.
2. Consult a Healthcare Provider: If the bleeding is heavy, prolonged, or accompanied by significant pain, seek medical attention to rule out any serious conditions.
3. Continue Monitoring Symptoms: Pay attention to any changes in breast tenderness or other side effects. If they persist or worsen, consult your healthcare provider.
4. Follow Up: After the bleeding resolves, discuss with your healthcare provider whether to continue with the current regimen or make any adjustments based on your experiences.
Ultimately, your health and well-being should be the priority, and maintaining open communication with your healthcare provider is key to managing your treatment effectively.
