Concerns About Penis Size and Development in Teenagers - Urology

I have many questions?

I'm a senior high school student and also part of the honor guard, so I have a very good physique and stamina.
However, I only measure 2 centimeters in length.
Since we have to change clothes in the honor guard, I notice that my teammates and juniors all have noticeable bulges, while mine is flat.
One time in the restroom, a junior saw me, and later everyone found out about my size.
Why is this happening? Did I develop too early? I had pubic hair since fifth grade.
If it's genetic, why does my younger brother in seventh grade have a penis size of 15 centimeters? Should I see a doctor? I have had sexual experiences; during my sophomore year, my girlfriend initially thought that a muscular person would be larger, but she said my penis is too small.
It's so embarrassing...
However, my penis is quite thick, and I can ejaculate.
Even I feel that it's really small because every time I wear gym shorts, I'm the only one without a noticeable bulge.
What should I do? By the way, students often play games where they grab each other, and I've noticed that some people are very sensitive; they get an erection just from being touched.
Those people usually have no sexual experience.
Is it true that virgins are more likely to get an erection?

Dr. Chen Xiuyi reply Urology

Hello! There is no standard length for the size of the penis.
In some overweight patients, the penis may be hidden beneath the fat pad of the pubic area when flaccid, making it appear smaller.
As long as the erect length exceeds 8 centimeters, it is considered normal for adult men in China.
This is respectfully submitted by Dr.
Chen Hsiu-Yi, Director of the Urology Department at Taoyuan Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare.

Understanding concerns about penis size and development during adolescence is a common issue among teenage boys. It's important to recognize that puberty is a complex process that varies significantly from one individual to another. During this time, boys experience a range of physical changes, including the development of secondary sexual characteristics, which can lead to concerns about body image and self-esteem.

Firstly, penis size can vary widely among individuals, and there is no "normal" size. Studies suggest that the average erect penis size is around 5 to 6 inches in length, but many factors can influence this, including genetics, hormonal levels, and overall body development. It's also worth noting that the penis continues to grow and develop throughout puberty, which can last until the late teens or even early twenties. Therefore, if you are still in high school, it is entirely possible that your penis may continue to grow.

Regarding your specific situation, feeling self-conscious about your size, especially in a competitive environment like a school team, is understandable. However, it's crucial to remember that penis size does not determine masculinity, sexual prowess, or worth. Many men have insecurities about their bodies, and it's a common experience to compare oneself to peers. The fact that you have had sexual experiences and are able to achieve erections indicates that your sexual function is normal, regardless of size.

You mentioned that you started developing pubic hair at a young age, which can be an indicator of early puberty. Early or late development can lead to feelings of being out of sync with peers, but it does not necessarily indicate a problem. Each person's body develops at its own pace, and there are many factors, including genetics, that play a role in this process. The fact that your younger brother has a larger penis size is likely due to genetic variation, which is entirely normal.

If you are feeling significant distress about your body image or if you have concerns about your sexual health, it may be beneficial to speak with a healthcare professional. A doctor can provide reassurance, address any medical concerns, and help you understand more about normal development. They can also discuss any questions you may have about sexual health and relationships.

As for the observation regarding sensitivity and erections, it's common for individuals who are less experienced sexually to have more pronounced reactions to physical stimulation. This can be due to a variety of factors, including hormonal levels, psychological arousal, and individual sensitivity. Sexual experience can influence how one responds to stimuli, but it does not dictate one's worth or masculinity.

In conclusion, it's essential to focus on self-acceptance and understanding that everyone develops differently. Engaging in open conversations with trusted friends or professionals can help alleviate feelings of insecurity. Remember, confidence and self-esteem come from within, and embracing who you are is far more important than conforming to societal standards or peer comparisons.
