Pregnant for five weeks?
Doctor, I had unprotected intercourse with ejaculation on July 4th.
I had unprotected intercourse without ejaculation on July 25th and 27th.
I also had unprotected intercourse without ejaculation on July 29th, August 1st, 3rd, 7th, 10th, and 13th.
On August 17th, I took a pregnancy test and got two strong lines, with the second line appearing within 30 seconds to a minute.
On August 21st, I went to the obstetrics and gynecology department and saw a 0.6 cm embryo, which is exactly five weeks along.
My period was supposed to start on August 14th but was delayed by three to five days, and I tested positive for pregnancy.
I would like to know approximately when I conceived.

Hello, it could be anytime from the end of July to the beginning of August; it's difficult to determine the exact day.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
To estimate the conception date based on your provided information, we need to consider a few key points about the menstrual cycle and the timing of ovulation. Typically, ovulation occurs about 14 days before the start of your next menstrual period. Given that your last menstrual period (LMP) started on July 17, and you mentioned that your period was expected around August 14, we can infer that ovulation likely occurred around July 31, give or take a few days.
Based on your sexual activity, you had unprotected intercourse on several occasions:
1. July 4: Unprotected intercourse (internal ejaculation).
2. July 25 and 27: Unprotected intercourse (no internal ejaculation).
3. July 29, August 1, 3, 7, 10, and 13: Unprotected intercourse (no internal ejaculation).
Given that sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days, the most likely conception date would be around the time of ovulation, which we estimated to be around July 31. Since you had unprotected intercourse on July 4, it is unlikely that this encounter resulted in pregnancy, as it was too early in your cycle. The encounters on July 25 and 27 are also less likely to have resulted in conception, as they occurred before the estimated ovulation date.
The most probable scenario is that the unprotected intercourse on July 29 or August 1 led to conception, as these dates are closer to the estimated ovulation period.
When you took a pregnancy test on August 17, it showed a positive result, indicating that implantation likely occurred about a week prior, which aligns with the timing of your ovulation and subsequent intercourse. The ultrasound on August 21 confirmed a gestational age of five weeks, which further supports this timeline.
In summary, your estimated conception date is likely around July 31, with the most probable intercourse leading to conception occurring on July 29 or August 1.
Additional Medical Insights:
1. Understanding Menstrual Cycles: The average menstrual cycle is about 28 days, but it can range from 21 to 35 days. Ovulation typically occurs about 14 days before the next expected period. Tracking your cycle can help in understanding your fertile window.
2. Sperm Viability: Sperm can live inside the female reproductive tract for up to five days, which is why intercourse a few days before ovulation can still result in pregnancy.
3. Pregnancy Testing: Home pregnancy tests are most accurate when taken after a missed period, as they measure the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced after implantation.
4. Ultrasound Dating: Ultrasound is a reliable method for dating a pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. It measures the size of the embryo or fetus to estimate gestational age, which can sometimes adjust the expected due date based on the LMP.
5. Due Date Calculation: The estimated due date is typically calculated by adding 280 days (or 40 weeks) to the first day of your last menstrual period. In your case, with an LMP of July 17, your estimated due date would be around April 23 of the following year.
If you have further questions or concerns about your pregnancy, it is always best to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized advice and care.
