Wound healing issues
It has been three months since my anal fistula surgery, and there is still serous fluid draining from my anus.
I underwent another debridement on August 11, and as of the 24th, the serous fluid is still present, and I feel no improvement.
After debridement, how long should it take for the wound to heal before it is considered abnormal? I am unsure which hospital or doctor can address my issue.
I am in Miaoli and would appreciate any recommendations for a doctor!

After undergoing fistula surgery, it is not uncommon for patients to experience prolonged drainage of serous fluid from the surgical site. In your case, it has been three months since the surgery, and you are still noticing the presence of tissue fluid. You mentioned that you had a debridement procedure on August 11, and as of the 24th, the situation has not improved.
Wound healing is a complex process that can be influenced by various factors, including the type of surgery performed, the patient's overall health, and the presence of any underlying conditions. Generally, a surgical wound should show signs of healing within a few weeks. If a wound continues to drain fluid or shows no signs of healing after three months, it may be considered abnormal.
In terms of what constitutes a normal healing timeline, most surgical wounds should begin to close and show significant improvement within 2 to 6 weeks. If there is persistent drainage, it could indicate an issue such as infection, inadequate closure of the wound, or the formation of a new fistula.
Given your situation, it is crucial to seek further medical evaluation. You should consider consulting a specialist in colorectal surgery or a wound care specialist. These professionals are well-equipped to assess the healing process of your fistula site and determine if there are any complications that need to be addressed.
In terms of where to seek help, since you are located in Miaoli, you may want to look for hospitals or clinics that specialize in colorectal surgery. It would be beneficial to find a surgeon who has experience with fistula repairs and postoperative care. You can ask for referrals from your primary care physician or look for recommendations from local health forums or support groups for patients who have undergone similar procedures.
When you visit the doctor, be prepared to discuss your symptoms in detail, including the amount and type of fluid draining from the wound, any pain or discomfort you are experiencing, and any other changes you have noticed. The doctor may perform a physical examination and possibly order imaging studies or lab tests to assess for infection or other complications.
In summary, if your wound has not healed after three months and continues to drain fluid, it is advisable to seek further medical attention. Consulting a colorectal surgeon or a wound care specialist will provide you with the best chance of addressing your concerns effectively. Remember, timely intervention can prevent further complications and promote better healing outcomes.
