Pregnancy test questions?
Hello doctor, my average menstrual cycle is 41 days.
My last period was from July 10 to July 14.
I had unprotected intercourse with my boyfriend on July 23, and there was no ejaculation inside.
On August 18 (two days before my expected period), I had a blood test for pregnancy, and the result showed a value less than 0.18/22 (my period was two days late).
I also used a home pregnancy test, which showed one line.
On August 25 (five days late), I used a home pregnancy test again, and the result was also one line, but the line appeared in the middle of the control (C) area.
Does this mean I can be certain that I am not pregnant? I originally expected ovulation around August 6, but I noticed egg white cervical mucus a few days ago, leading me to wonder if my entire cycle has been delayed.

Hello, you should not be pregnant.
Wait another week, and if your period still hasn't arrived, you may consider taking menstrual induction medication.
Wishing you good health.

More Info
Understanding pregnancy test results can be quite complex, especially when considering various factors that can influence the outcome. Based on your situation, let's break down the information you've provided and clarify what it means regarding your potential pregnancy.
You mentioned that your average menstrual cycle is 41 days, with your last menstrual period occurring from July 10 to July 14. You had unprotected intercourse on July 23, which is important because it places you within the window of potential conception, especially if you were approaching your ovulation period. Typically, ovulation occurs about 14 days before the start of your next period, so if your cycle is 41 days, ovulation might have occurred around July 27.
You took a blood test on August 18, which showed a result of less than 0.18/22. This low level of hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) suggests that you were not pregnant at that time, as a positive pregnancy test usually requires hCG levels to be above a certain threshold (often around 5 mIU/mL or higher). Additionally, you used a home pregnancy test on August 25, which also showed a single line, indicating a negative result.
The fact that your menstrual period was late by five days at the time of your second test could raise some questions. However, since both the blood test and the home pregnancy test returned negative results, it is reasonable to conclude that you are not pregnant.
It's also worth noting that the presence of egg white cervical mucus (the "jelly-like" discharge you mentioned) can indicate ovulation, which aligns with your cycle. If you are experiencing changes in your cycle length or the timing of ovulation, it may be beneficial to track these patterns over a few months. Stress, hormonal imbalances, and other factors can affect your menstrual cycle, leading to variations in timing and symptoms.
In summary, based on the information provided, it appears that you are not pregnant. However, if your menstrual cycle continues to be irregular or if you experience any unusual symptoms, it would be wise to consult with a healthcare provider. They can offer further evaluation and guidance, including potential tests to assess your hormonal levels and overall reproductive health.
If you have any further questions or concerns about your menstrual cycle or pregnancy testing, please feel free to ask. It's essential to stay informed and proactive about your reproductive health.
