The left epididymis is larger than the right epididymis?
I would like to ask the doctor, a few days ago while taking a shower, I noticed that my left epididymis is larger than the right one (it feels a bit like a bubble or a blood vessel inside).
A few days later, I masturbated, and during that time, there was no pain or sensation.
However, after a few more days, I masturbated again, and afterward, my left epididymis felt somewhat sore, but the next day the soreness was gone, and even when touched, there was no pain.
I would like to know what this condition might be or if it is actually a normal phenomenon that will resolve with a few days of rest.
Thank you, doctor!

When it comes to understanding the size differences in testicular appendages, particularly the epididymis, it's essential to recognize that variations in size can occur for various reasons. The epididymis is a coiled tube located at the back of each testis, responsible for storing and maturing sperm. It is not uncommon for one side to appear larger than the other, and this can be due to several factors, including anatomical differences, fluid accumulation, or even temporary conditions.
From your description, it seems that you noticed an increase in size on the left side of the epididymis, which you described as feeling like a bubble or a vascular structure. This sensation could indicate the presence of a few different conditions:
1. Epididymal Cyst: This is a fluid-filled sac that can develop in the epididymis. They are usually benign and may not cause any pain or discomfort. If the cyst is small, it may not require treatment, but larger cysts can sometimes cause discomfort.
2. Spermatocele: Similar to an epididymal cyst, a spermatocele is a cyst that specifically contains sperm. These are also generally harmless and often do not require intervention unless they cause significant discomfort.
3. Varicocele: This condition involves the enlargement of veins within the scrotum, similar to varicose veins in the legs. It can cause a feeling of heaviness or discomfort in the affected testicle and may lead to fertility issues in some cases.
4. Infection or Inflammation: Conditions such as epididymitis (inflammation of the epididymis) can cause swelling and pain. This is often accompanied by other symptoms, such as redness, warmth, and possibly fever.
5. Trauma: If there has been any recent trauma to the area, it could lead to swelling or bruising, which may cause temporary changes in size or discomfort.
Regarding the pain you experienced after masturbation, it is not uncommon for some men to feel temporary discomfort or soreness in the testicular area following sexual activity. This can be due to increased blood flow and tension in the area during arousal and ejaculation. However, if the pain persists or worsens, it is important to seek medical attention.
In general, if you notice persistent swelling, pain, or any other unusual symptoms, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional. They may perform a physical examination and possibly an ultrasound to determine the underlying cause of the size difference and any associated symptoms.
In summary, while some size differences in the epididymis can be normal and benign, it is crucial to monitor any changes and seek medical advice if you have concerns. Regular self-examinations can help you become familiar with your anatomy, making it easier to notice any significant changes that may warrant further investigation. Always prioritize your health and well-being by consulting with a healthcare provider when in doubt.
