Is it possible to get pregnant if ejaculation occurs outside during the days right after menstruation?

I started my menstrual period on September 19, and it ended around September 23.
Last night, September 27, I had unprotected intercourse with my boyfriend, during which he ejaculated outside twice.
We took a shower in between.
My boyfriend usually exercises and has a fairly regular routine.
I'm wondering if this could affect sperm motility.
Could you please tell me how high the chances of pregnancy are in this situation? Thank you.

Pan, 20~29 year old female. Ask Date: 2023/09/28

Hello, if you have not used complete contraceptive measures, it is advisable to take emergency contraception to prevent any unintended pregnancy.
Wishing you good health.

More Info

When considering the possibility of pregnancy from unprotected intercourse, especially during the days following menstruation, several factors come into play. The menstrual cycle is typically around 28 days long, but it can vary from person to person. Ovulation usually occurs around 14 days before the start of the next period. Therefore, if your cycle is regular, the days immediately following your period are generally considered to be less fertile. However, sperm can live inside the female reproductive tract for up to five days, which means that if you have a shorter cycle or if you ovulate earlier than expected, there is still a chance of becoming pregnant.

In your case, since your period started on September 19 and ended around September 23, and you had unprotected intercourse on September 27, it is relatively close to your ovulation window, which could occur around the middle of your cycle. If you have a shorter cycle, say 24 days, ovulation could happen as early as September 26. Therefore, while the risk of pregnancy is lower right after your period, it is not zero, especially if you have a shorter cycle or if your ovulation timing varies.

Regarding the impact of washing or bathing between intercourse sessions, it is important to note that washing does not significantly affect sperm viability. Sperm can be quite resilient, and as long as they are deposited in the vaginal canal, they have the potential to travel through the cervix and into the uterus to fertilize an egg.

If you are concerned about the possibility of pregnancy, it may be beneficial to consider emergency contraception if you are within the appropriate time frame (typically within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse). Additionally, if you are actively trying to avoid pregnancy, it is advisable to use reliable contraception methods consistently.

In summary, while the likelihood of becoming pregnant immediately after your period is generally lower, it is not impossible. Factors such as cycle length, timing of ovulation, and sperm viability all play a role in determining the risk of pregnancy. If you have further concerns or if your menstrual cycle is irregular, consulting with a healthcare provider can provide personalized guidance and options for contraception.
