Discharge on ovulation day?
Hello Doctor,
My recent menstrual period was from September 17 to September 21.
My basal body temperatures are as follows:
- September 26: 36.139
- September 27: 35.949
- September 28: 35.899
- September 29: Not measured
- September 30: 36.05
- October 1: 36.01
- October 2: 35.99
- October 3: 35.78
- October 4: 36.04
- October 5: 36.55
- October 6: 36.27
I would like to ask the doctor the following questions, thank you!
1.
On September 30, there was approximately 3 minutes of unprotected intercourse, followed by manual stimulation for about 4-5 minutes before ejaculation.
Would you consider that day to be within the fertile window? (My cycle is 30-32 days long.)
2.
Is it correct to estimate that ovulation occurred around October 3?
3.
As of today, October 9, I sometimes notice watery discharge in my underwear, and at other times it is cervical mucus.
Is this normal?
Thank you for your time, Doctor!

More Info
Understanding ovulation and discharge is crucial for women who are tracking their menstrual cycles for various reasons, including conception or contraception. Based on the information provided, let's address your questions systematically.
1. Is September 30 a dangerous period?
Given that your menstrual cycle is approximately 30-32 days, ovulation typically occurs around 14 days before the start of your next period. If your last period started on September 17 and your cycle is 30-32 days, ovulation likely occurred around October 1 to October 3. Engaging in unprotected sexual activity on September 30, which is close to your ovulation window, can be considered a potential risk for pregnancy. Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to five days, so if ovulation occurred shortly after, there is a chance of conception.
2. Was October 3 the ovulation day?
Based on your basal body temperature (BBT) readings, it appears that your temperature began to rise slightly after October 1, which is consistent with the post-ovulation phase. A significant rise in BBT typically indicates that ovulation has occurred. Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that October 3 could be around your ovulation day, especially since the temperature on October 3 was lower than on October 5, which shows a rise. Tracking BBT is a helpful method to confirm ovulation retrospectively.
3. Is it normal to have watery discharge or white discharge?
Yes, it is normal to experience variations in vaginal discharge throughout your menstrual cycle. After ovulation, many women notice an increase in cervical mucus, which can be watery or creamy. This is due to hormonal changes in your body. Watery discharge can be a sign of ovulation or can occur in the luteal phase after ovulation. White discharge can also be normal, especially if it is not accompanied by any unusual odor or irritation. However, if you notice any changes in color, consistency, or if there are any accompanying symptoms like itching or a strong odor, it may be worth consulting a healthcare provider to rule out any infections.
In summary, based on your cycle and symptoms:
- September 30 is within a potential risk period for pregnancy.
- October 3 is likely around your ovulation date.
- Variations in discharge are normal, but keep an eye on any changes that may indicate a problem.
If you have further concerns about your menstrual cycle, fertility, or any unusual symptoms, it is always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice and guidance.
