Is the probability of pregnancy high?

I have been taking oral contraceptives for two months...
This month marks the fourth day of the third month of taking the pills, but I had unprotected intercourse two days ago, which was the fourth day of my period.
I would like to know if there is a chance of pregnancy.
I read online that having intercourse during menstruation or that oral contraceptives only provide contraceptive protection after the seventh day.
Thank you.

When it comes to the question of whether you can get pregnant while on birth control during your period, it's essential to understand how hormonal contraceptives, such as oral birth control pills, work and the timing of their effectiveness.

Oral contraceptives are designed to prevent ovulation, which means that if taken correctly, they significantly reduce the chances of becoming pregnant. Most birth control pills require you to take them consistently at the same time every day. When you start taking the pill, it typically takes about seven days for the contraceptive effects to become fully effective if you start taking it at a time other than the first day of your period. However, if you start taking the pill on the first day of your period, it is effective immediately.

In your case, since you have been taking the pill for two months and are now in the third month, you should be well within the effective range of the contraceptive. The fact that you had intercourse on the fourth day of your period while on the pill means that you are likely protected against pregnancy, assuming you have taken your pills consistently and correctly.

It's important to note that menstrual bleeding does not indicate that you are not ovulating. Some women may experience breakthrough bleeding or spotting while on the pill, but this does not mean that ovulation is occurring. The hormonal changes induced by the pill typically suppress ovulation, making it unlikely for you to conceive during this time.

However, if you have missed any pills or taken them inconsistently, this could affect their effectiveness. If you missed a pill, especially in the week leading up to your sexual encounter, it is advisable to use a backup method of contraception, such as condoms, until you have taken the pill consistently for seven days again.

In summary, if you have been taking your birth control pills as prescribed and have not missed any doses, the likelihood of becoming pregnant from having intercourse during your period is very low. However, if you have concerns about your specific situation or if you experience any unusual symptoms, it is always a good idea to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized advice and reassurance.

In addition, if you are ever in doubt about your contraceptive method's effectiveness or have questions about your reproductive health, don't hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional. They can provide you with the most accurate information and help you make informed decisions about your sexual and reproductive health.
