Menstrual irregularities

On October 4th, I had a normal menstrual cycle.
During my period, I experienced ovarian inflammation and visited a gynecologist who prescribed antibiotics to take until the 14th.
My period ended on the 11th, but on the 14th, I caught influenza A from my boyfriend.
When I went to see a doctor, they did not perform a rapid test since I did not have a fever and prescribed some cold medications for me to rest at home.
However, by midnight, I developed a fever of 40 degrees Celsius and went to the emergency room.
The doctor administered a pain relief injection and prescribed Relenza.
I isolated at home and was confirmed to have influenza A.
Now, on the 17th, my menstrual cycle has returned.

[Could this be related to the medication, hormonal imbalance, or the fact that I lost 3 kilograms since my diagnosis? Or could it be due to the ovarian inflammation causing irregular menstruation? I have taken all the medications from three different hospitals and clinics and have consulted with the doctors.]

Menstrual irregularities can be a complex issue influenced by various factors, especially following an illness. In your case, several elements may contribute to the changes in your menstrual cycle after experiencing ovarian inflammation and subsequently contracting influenza A.

Firstly, it's essential to understand that the menstrual cycle is regulated by a delicate balance of hormones, primarily estrogen and progesterone. Any disruption in this hormonal balance can lead to irregularities. In your situation, the ovarian inflammation you experienced could have temporarily affected your hormonal levels, leading to changes in your menstrual cycle. Inflammation can cause the ovaries to produce hormones differently, potentially resulting in a delayed or altered menstrual period.

Secondly, the stress of illness, particularly a significant one like influenza A, can also impact your menstrual cycle. Stress, whether physical or emotional, can lead to hormonal fluctuations that may cause your cycle to become irregular. The fever and discomfort associated with the flu can further exacerbate this stress response, leading to changes in your menstrual timing and flow.

Additionally, the medications you were prescribed, including antibiotics for the ovarian inflammation and any medications taken for the flu, can also influence your menstrual cycle. While antibiotics typically do not directly affect menstrual cycles, they can alter the gut microbiome, which plays a role in hormone regulation. Furthermore, medications like the one you mentioned (瑞樂沙, or Relestra) can have side effects that include changes in menstrual patterns.

Weight loss is another critical factor to consider. You mentioned losing 3 kilograms, which may seem minor, but even small fluctuations in weight can affect your menstrual cycle. Rapid weight loss or significant changes in body composition can lead to hormonal imbalances, which can result in irregular periods. The body may interpret sudden weight changes as a stressor, further complicating the hormonal balance necessary for a regular menstrual cycle.

Given these factors, it is likely that your recent illness, the medications you took, the stress associated with being unwell, and the weight loss all contributed to the irregularity in your menstrual cycle. It is essential to monitor your cycle over the next few months. If the irregularities persist or worsen, it would be advisable to consult with a healthcare provider, preferably a gynecologist or an endocrinologist, who can evaluate your hormonal levels and overall reproductive health.

In summary, the irregularities in your menstrual cycle following your recent illness could be attributed to a combination of factors, including hormonal changes due to ovarian inflammation, stress from illness, the effects of medications, and weight loss. Keeping track of your symptoms and discussing them with a healthcare professional will help in determining the underlying cause and appropriate management.
