Nasal issues?
Hello, I often experience post-nasal drip.
I have visited many otolaryngologists, but none have been able to resolve the issue.
Sometimes when I take the medications prescribed by the ENT specialists, I feel a pressure in my head, which is quite uncomfortable, and I find it difficult to concentrate.
My temper can also become quite irritable.
Occasionally, doctors use a suction device to clear my nasal mucus, but just a few minutes later, the mucus returns and feels stuck, which is very uncomfortable.
Additionally, I have significant dark circles under my eyes.
Some doctors say that the dark circles can be caused by nasal allergies, while others say it has nothing to do with my nose.
I'm really curious about this.
Is there a connection between the formation of dark circles and nasal issues? Also, what exactly is wrong with my nose? I frequently experience post-nasal drip, and it feels very unpleasant.

(1) Related (2) Generally speaking, the average postnasal drip volume is about 500-700 cc per day.
Your issue may be due to chronic sinusitis or allergies, which can increase the volume and thickness of secretions.
I believe further examination may be necessary to confirm the issue.

More Info
Post-nasal drip is a common condition that occurs when excess mucus accumulates in the back of the throat, often leading to a sensation of mucus dripping down the throat. This can be caused by various factors, including allergies, sinus infections, colds, or even irritants in the environment. The discomfort you are experiencing, including the feeling of mucus accumulation and the associated symptoms like headaches and irritability, can be quite distressing.
The connection between post-nasal drip and dark circles under the eyes is indeed a topic of interest in the medical community. Dark circles can be caused by several factors, including genetics, lack of sleep, and even dehydration. However, there is a plausible link between nasal issues and dark circles. When you have chronic nasal congestion or post-nasal drip, it can lead to inflammation and swelling in the nasal passages and surrounding areas, including the eyes. This inflammation can cause blood vessels under the eyes to become more prominent, leading to the appearance of dark circles.
Moreover, the discomfort and fatigue associated with chronic nasal issues can lead to poor sleep quality, which is another contributing factor to dark circles. When you are not sleeping well due to nasal congestion or discomfort, your body may not have the opportunity to repair itself, leading to a tired appearance.
In your case, it seems that you have been experiencing persistent post-nasal drip despite seeing multiple ENT specialists. This could indicate an underlying issue that has not been adequately addressed. Conditions such as chronic rhinosinusitis, allergies, or even structural issues in the nasal passages could be contributing to your symptoms. It is essential to have a thorough evaluation, which may include imaging studies like a CT scan of the sinuses, to rule out any anatomical abnormalities or chronic sinusitis.
The medications prescribed by your doctors, such as antihistamines or nasal corticosteroids, are typically used to reduce inflammation and mucus production. However, if these treatments are not providing relief, it may be worth discussing alternative therapies with your healthcare provider. Some patients find relief with saline nasal irrigation, which can help clear mucus and allergens from the nasal passages. Additionally, addressing any potential allergens in your environment, such as dust mites or pet dander, may also help alleviate your symptoms.
In summary, there is a connection between nasal issues, post-nasal drip, and dark circles under the eyes. Chronic nasal congestion can lead to inflammation around the eyes, contributing to the appearance of dark circles. It is crucial to continue working with your healthcare provider to identify the underlying cause of your post-nasal drip and explore effective treatment options. If necessary, consider seeking a second opinion from another ENT specialist who may offer a fresh perspective on your condition.
