Phimosis ointment is difficult to remove?
I have been dealing with phimosis for 17 years, and before turning 18, I decided to properly address the issue.
I went to the hospital and received a topical ointment (Mometasone furoate cream), which I applied for three months with good results.
However, at that time, I couldn't fully retract the foreskin, so a lot of the ointment accumulated in the area.
Now that I can fully retract it, there is a significant amount of accumulated ointment that also has a bit of an odor.
I tried to clean it using the same method as washing smegma, but I still couldn't remove some of it.
I attempted to use a handheld showerhead with water pressure to rinse it off, but it was ineffective.
Additionally, I still feel some residue of the ointment on the glans, and when I try to wash it, it just seems to smear the ointment around without actually cleaning it off.
I would like to ask how I can effectively clean off the ointment, as I found online that I shouldn't use cleansers directly on the glans, but I am struggling to get it clean.
Therefore, I am reaching out here to seek advice from a doctor.
Thank you.

Hello: Wash with warm water, dry it after washing, and then apply the ointment.
It's best to rinse off the previous ointment every day; if that's not possible, you should return for a follow-up appointment.
Wishing you good health.

When dealing with residual ointment from phimosis treatment, particularly after using a medication like "暟膚美得乳膏" (which is likely a topical steroid or antifungal), it's important to approach the cleaning process carefully to avoid irritation or damage to sensitive skin. Here are some effective methods to help you remove the accumulated ointment safely:
1. Warm Water Soak: Start by soaking the area in warm water. This can help soften the ointment and make it easier to remove. You can do this in a bathtub or a basin. Soaking for about 10-15 minutes can be beneficial.
2. Gentle Manual Cleaning: After soaking, use your fingers to gently massage the area. Be careful not to apply too much pressure, as the skin can be sensitive. The goal is to loosen the ointment without causing irritation.
3. Use of a Soft Cloth: After soaking and gentle massaging, you can use a soft, clean cloth or a cotton ball to wipe the area. Dampen the cloth with warm water to help lift the ointment. Avoid using any harsh materials that could irritate the skin.
4. Avoid Harsh Soaps: As you mentioned, it's important not to use strong soaps or cleaning agents directly on the glans (the head of the penis) as they can disrupt the natural balance of the skin and lead to irritation. Instead, if necessary, use a mild, unscented soap diluted with water, but only on the shaft and surrounding areas, avoiding direct contact with the sensitive glans.
5. Rinse Thoroughly: After cleaning, ensure that you rinse the area thoroughly with warm water to remove any soap residue. This is crucial as leftover soap can also cause irritation.
6. Pat Dry: After rinsing, gently pat the area dry with a clean towel. Avoid rubbing, as this can cause irritation.
7. Consult a Healthcare Provider: If you find that the ointment is still not coming off after these methods, or if you experience any irritation, redness, or discomfort, it’s advisable to consult a healthcare provider. They may recommend specific cleaning solutions or provide further guidance tailored to your situation.
8. Follow-Up Care: After successfully removing the ointment, keep an eye on the area for any signs of irritation or infection. If you notice any unusual symptoms, such as persistent redness, swelling, or discharge, seek medical attention promptly.
In summary, the key to effectively removing residual ointment is to use gentle methods that prioritize the health and sensitivity of the skin. Warm water soaking, gentle massaging, and careful cleaning with soft materials are your best options. Always prioritize your comfort and safety, and don’t hesitate to reach out to a healthcare professional if you have concerns or if the issue persists.
