Peyronie's disease
I recently noticed a prominent vein on my foreskin that wasn't there before (from the glans to the base).
It's very noticeable and can be felt, and it seems like it won't go away.
What should I do? I have a couple of other concerns as well.
1.
When retracting the foreskin, the base of that vein sometimes twists into an S-shape, which looks alarming, almost like it's bent or broken.
Is this normal? Now, I feel anxious every time I retract my foreskin and wish it would go back to how it was before.
2.
Recently, during some DIY activities, I experienced pain when the glans accidentally brushed against my underwear while erect.
However, I can't pinpoint exactly where the pain is coming from, and it seems to go away when I'm not in contact with anything.
If I go to the hospital, will the doctor be able to identify where the pain is coming from, considering I can't even figure it out myself?
These issues have only arisen recently, and I didn't have them before.
I'm worried that I might have a serious problem, and I'm concerned that if I don't go to the hospital soon, it might get worse.

More Info
When it comes to the visibility of veins on the penis, particularly if you notice a prominent vein that wasn't there before, it's important to understand the potential causes and whether they warrant concern. The appearance of visible veins can be influenced by several factors, including changes in blood flow, hormonal fluctuations, or even physical activity.
1. Causes of Visible Veins: The veins on the penis can become more prominent due to increased blood flow during arousal, physical exertion, or even changes in body composition. If you have recently lost weight or gained muscle, this can also make veins more visible. Additionally, conditions such as varicose veins can occur in the genital area, although this is less common. If the vein feels hard or is accompanied by pain, it may indicate a more serious condition that requires medical evaluation.
2. S-Shaped Twisting of the Vein: The twisting or bending of the vein when the foreskin is retracted can be alarming, but it is often a normal anatomical variation. The veins in the penis are elastic and can change shape based on the position of the penis and the surrounding tissues. However, if this twisting is accompanied by pain, swelling, or changes in color, it would be prudent to consult a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying issues.
3. Pain During Erection: Experiencing pain during an erection, especially if it occurs when the glans (head of the penis) comes into contact with clothing, can be concerning. This could be due to friction, sensitivity, or even an underlying condition such as Peyronie's disease, which involves the development of fibrous scar tissue inside the penis. If the pain persists or worsens, it is advisable to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider can perform a physical examination and may use imaging techniques if necessary to determine the cause of the pain.
4. When to Seek Medical Attention: If you notice any sudden changes in the appearance of your veins, experience persistent pain, or have any other concerning symptoms (such as swelling, discoloration, or changes in sexual function), it is essential to consult a healthcare professional. Early evaluation can help identify any potential issues before they become more serious.
5. What to Expect During a Medical Evaluation: When you visit a doctor regarding these concerns, they will likely conduct a thorough history and physical examination. They may ask about your symptoms, any recent changes in your health or lifestyle, and perform a visual and physical examination of the genital area. Depending on their findings, they may recommend further tests, such as an ultrasound, to assess blood flow and the condition of the veins.
In summary, while visible veins on the penis can be a normal variation, any accompanying symptoms such as pain, swelling, or significant changes in appearance should prompt a visit to a healthcare provider. They can provide reassurance, diagnosis, and appropriate treatment options if necessary. Remember, it’s always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health.
