Menstrual irregularities
Last menstrual period was from October 18 to October 22.
On November 8, due to excessive discharge with an unusual odor and blood streaks, I consulted a doctor who diagnosed cervical erosion.
I was prescribed KASCOAL TABLETS 40MG, DELAMIN TABLETS 2MG, FROTIN ENTERIC SUGAR COATED TABLETS, and a suppository, and was advised to complete the medication and return for a follow-up.
During today's follow-up examination, the doctor noted that the discharge has significantly decreased, but there are still some blood streaks.
I asked the doctor to induce my period since I have a business trip at the end of the month and I was concerned about getting my period then.
The doctor prescribed Premarin 0.625 mg once daily and Primolut-Nor twice daily in the evening.
After taking the first dose, I experienced bleeding about one to two hours later, which was heavier than before taking the medication, but the amount is not as much as my usual period.
Should I stop the medication or continue taking it until completion?

Hello: This condition is likely menstruation.
It is recommended that you continue taking the medication until just before the first day of your next period, then discontinue the medication.

More Info
Abnormal menstrual bleeding can be a concerning issue for many women, and understanding its causes and treatment options is crucial for managing one's reproductive health. Based on your description, it seems that you have been experiencing abnormal bleeding and discharge, which led you to seek medical attention. The medications prescribed by your doctor, including Premarin and Primolut-Nor, are commonly used to manage menstrual irregularities.
Causes of Abnormal Menstrual Bleeding
Abnormal menstrual bleeding can arise from various factors, including hormonal imbalances, structural abnormalities, infections, and other medical conditions. In your case, the mention of cervical erosion (cervical ectropion) suggests that the bleeding may be related to changes in the cervical tissue, which can become more sensitive and prone to bleeding, especially during menstruation or after intercourse.
1. Hormonal Imbalances: Fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone levels can lead to irregular bleeding. Conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or thyroid disorders can also contribute to these imbalances.
2. Structural Abnormalities: Uterine fibroids, polyps, or adenomyosis can cause heavy or irregular bleeding. These conditions may require imaging studies, such as an ultrasound, for proper diagnosis.
3. Infections: Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can lead to abnormal discharge and bleeding. It's essential to rule out these infections, especially if there are accompanying symptoms like pain or unusual discharge.
4. Cervical Issues: As mentioned, cervical erosion can cause bleeding. This condition is often benign but may require monitoring or treatment if symptoms persist.
Treatment Options
The treatment for abnormal menstrual bleeding often depends on the underlying cause. In your case, the medications prescribed are aimed at regulating your menstrual cycle and addressing the bleeding.
- Premarin (Conjugated Estrogens): This medication is used to supplement estrogen levels in the body. It can help in cases of hormonal imbalance and may assist in regulating your menstrual cycle.
- Primolut-Nor (Norethisterone): This progestin is often used to manage menstrual disorders. It can help in controlling bleeding and may also be used to delay menstruation, which seems to be your goal given your upcoming trip.
Current Situation
You mentioned that after taking the medications, you experienced an increase in bleeding, which is concerning. It’s important to note that while some women may experience heavier bleeding initially when starting hormonal treatments, this should stabilize over time. However, if the bleeding is significantly heavier than your normal menstrual flow or if you experience any other alarming symptoms (such as severe pain, dizziness, or passing large clots), you should contact your healthcare provider immediately.
Recommendations
1. Continue Monitoring: Keep track of your bleeding patterns, including the amount and duration. This information will be valuable for your healthcare provider.
2. Follow-Up Appointment: Since you have a follow-up appointment scheduled, it’s essential to discuss your current symptoms with your doctor. They may want to adjust your medication or conduct further evaluations.
3. Do Not Stop Medication Abruptly: Unless advised by your doctor, do not stop taking your medications suddenly. Abrupt cessation can lead to a return of symptoms or worsen your condition.
4. Lifestyle Considerations: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including a balanced diet and regular exercise, can help regulate your menstrual cycle and improve overall health.
In conclusion, while it’s understandable to be concerned about abnormal bleeding, it’s essential to work closely with your healthcare provider to determine the best course of action. They can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and current symptoms. Always feel empowered to ask questions and express any concerns during your medical visits.
