Ear, nose, and throat issues?

On November 7, I noticed that the color of my earwax was different; prior to this, both ears had light yellow earwax.
The left ear had a brownish color and contained a small soft, moist area less than 0.3 cm (this was the only time it felt soft).
The right ear remained light yellow.
On November 8 and 9, the left ear felt hot, dry, and itchy, with occasional sensations of pulsation as if a blood vessel were throbbing.
On November 10, it felt dry and itchy, and when I touched the outer ear, I felt a thin layer resembling skin.
I scraped off some white-gray, dry material with my fingernail, which led to occasional itching afterward.
Additionally, I experienced slight nasal congestion (noted nasal voice on November 18), sneezed a few times, but did not have a runny nose.
I would like to know if the difference in earwax color is normal.
Could it be a fungal infection? Should I see an otolaryngologist (ENT) at a clinic or a hospital? Earlier this month, I forgot which day it was, but I felt particularly congested, requiring me to consciously breathe in and out all day to avoid dizziness.
I couldn't clear my nasal passages until that evening when I used a cotton swab to extract mucus, which alleviated the need for conscious breathing.
Currently, I still have slight congestion.

If you are concerned about an outer ear fungal infection, it is recommended to visit an otolaryngology clinic for examination and confirmation.

When dealing with ear and nasal issues, it’s essential to understand the symptoms and when to seek care from an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist. Based on your description, you are experiencing a range of symptoms that could indicate underlying issues that may require professional evaluation.

Firstly, the difference in earwax color and consistency between your left and right ears is noteworthy. Earwax, or cerumen, can vary in color from light yellow to dark brown, and its consistency can range from dry and flaky to wet and sticky. The presence of a soft, moist area in your left ear, along with symptoms of itching, dryness, and a sensation of fullness or pulsation, could suggest several possibilities. These may include an ear infection, eczema, or even a fungal infection, especially if you have been experiencing persistent itching and discomfort.

The symptoms you describe, such as the sensation of something moving in your ear, the dryness, and the occasional itchiness, could potentially indicate a condition known as otitis externa (swimmer's ear), which is an infection of the outer ear canal. This condition can be exacerbated by moisture, leading to fungal growth, particularly if the earwax is not being produced adequately to protect the ear canal.

Regarding your nasal symptoms, the nasal congestion, sneezing, and the sensation of nasal blockage without significant nasal discharge could be indicative of allergic rhinitis or a sinus issue. The fact that you experienced severe nasal congestion that led to dizziness suggests that the nasal passages may be significantly obstructed, impacting your ability to breathe comfortably.

Given these symptoms, it is advisable to seek an evaluation from an ENT specialist. An ENT can perform a thorough examination of your ears, nose, and throat, potentially using tools like an otoscope for the ears and a nasal endoscope for the nasal passages. This examination can help determine if there is an infection, an allergy, or another underlying condition that needs to be addressed.

In terms of whether to visit a clinic or a hospital, if your symptoms are mild and manageable, a visit to an ENT clinic may suffice. However, if you experience severe pain, significant hearing loss, or if your symptoms worsen, it would be prudent to go to a hospital where you can receive immediate care.

In summary, the combination of your ear and nasal symptoms suggests that there may be an underlying issue that warrants professional evaluation. It is essential to address these symptoms promptly to prevent any potential complications, such as chronic infections or hearing loss. Seeking care from an ENT specialist will provide you with the best course of action and appropriate treatment options tailored to your specific condition.
