Can I get pregnant?

My girlfriend got her period on November 24 last year, and we had unprotected intercourse with withdrawal on December 10.
As of January 5, she still hasn't gotten her period, but she doesn't feel unwell, has no nausea, breast tenderness, or loss of taste when smelling food.
Although she hasn't taken a pregnancy test yet, I want to know if this is just a menstrual issue or if she might be pregnant.

Ye Zi, 10~19 year old female. Ask Date: 2024/01/05

Hello, the factors that can affect the menstrual cycle are numerous, including age, environment, lifestyle, stress, emotional instability, weight changes, medications, emergency contraceptive pills, diet, polycystic ovary syndrome, lesions in the uterus or cervix, infections, ovulation, pregnancy, and breastfeeding, among others.
If your period is more than a week late, it is advisable to check for pregnancy.
Thank you! Wishing you peace and health.

When it comes to understanding menstrual delays and the possibility of pregnancy, several factors need to be considered. Your girlfriend's last menstrual period was on November 24, and since you had unprotected intercourse on December 10, it is indeed possible for her to be pregnant, especially if her cycle is typically regular. However, there are many reasons why a menstrual cycle can be delayed, and not all of them are related to pregnancy.

Firstly, it's important to understand that menstrual cycles can vary significantly from person to person and can be influenced by numerous factors including stress, hormonal imbalances, changes in weight, illness, and lifestyle changes. If your girlfriend is experiencing a delay in her period, it could simply be due to one of these factors rather than pregnancy.

In your case, since the last period was on November 24 and today is January 5, it is about 12 days late. If her cycle is usually regular, this delay could be a sign of pregnancy. However, if she has irregular cycles, it may not be unusual for her to experience a delay.
The absence of common early pregnancy symptoms such as nausea, breast tenderness, or changes in taste does not rule out pregnancy. Some women may not experience these symptoms until a few weeks into their pregnancy, while others may not experience them at all. The best way to determine if she is pregnant is to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are designed to detect the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced shortly after a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining.
If the test is positive, it would confirm pregnancy, and she should schedule an appointment with a healthcare provider for further evaluation and prenatal care. If the test is negative and her period still does not arrive, it would be advisable for her to consult a healthcare professional to explore other potential causes for the delay.

In summary, while there is a possibility that your girlfriend could be pregnant given the timing of your sexual encounter, there are also many other reasons for a missed period. The most reliable way to find out is through a pregnancy test. If she is concerned or if her period does not return, seeking medical advice is always a good step to ensure her health and well-being.
