30 days post circumcision?

Hello Doctor, I have completed 30 days post circumcision and my recovery seems to be normal.
My last follow-up appointment was on day 22, during which I asked the doctor why I still feel tight after the surgery and why the glans does not appear fully exposed.
I have a condition of phimosis, and the doctor mentioned that the skin needs to be gradually pulled down to allow it to relax a bit.
I am unsure if this advice is correct, so I would like to ask for your opinion.
Additionally, it has been 30 days since the surgery, and I still notice that my frenulum is swollen.
I have been applying the anti-inflammatory medication prescribed by the doctor, but it does not seem to be effective, as the swelling persists.
Furthermore, during erections, I am unsure if the tightness is due to the foreskin adhering to the frenulum or if it is simply too tight.
I find it difficult to pull the foreskin down.
I would appreciate your response.
Thank you.

Hello Mr.
Anonymous: 1.
Postoperative swelling of the foreskin should gradually improve over time.
2.
Whether the frenulum is too tight can only be determined by a physician during an outpatient consultation.

After undergoing circumcision, it's common to have concerns regarding the healing process, especially around the 30-day mark. It’s great to hear that your recovery has been generally normal, but let’s address your specific concerns regarding the tight feeling, swelling of the frenulum, and the ability to retract the skin.

Firstly, the sensation of tightness you’re experiencing is not unusual. After circumcision, the skin around the glans (the head of the penis) may take some time to adjust. The surgeon's advice to gently pull the skin down to help it relax is a common recommendation. This process can help the skin become more accustomed to its new position and may alleviate some of the tightness over time. However, it’s important to do this gently to avoid any discomfort or injury.

Regarding the swelling of the frenulum, it’s also not uncommon for this area to remain swollen for a period following the procedure. The frenulum is a sensitive area, and post-operative swelling can occur due to the surgical trauma. Applying the anti-inflammatory medication prescribed by your doctor is a good practice, but if the swelling persists beyond what is expected, it may be worth discussing with your healthcare provider. They may want to evaluate the area to ensure there are no complications such as infection or excessive scarring.

If you find that you are unable to retract the skin comfortably, especially during an erection, this could indicate that the skin is still healing or that there may be some adhesions forming. It’s crucial to avoid forcing the skin down, as this could lead to pain or injury. Instead, gentle stretching, as advised by your doctor, can be beneficial. If you continue to experience difficulty or pain, it’s advisable to return to your healthcare provider for a follow-up. They can assess the situation and determine if any further intervention is necessary.

In terms of recovery tips, here are a few recommendations:
1. Maintain Hygiene: Keep the area clean and dry. Gently wash with mild soap and water, and avoid any harsh chemicals or fragrances that could irritate the skin.

2. Follow-Up Appointments: Attend any scheduled follow-up appointments with your surgeon or urologist. They can monitor your healing and address any concerns you may have.

3. Avoid Irritants: Be cautious with activities that may irritate the area, such as vigorous exercise or sexual activity, until you have fully healed and received clearance from your doctor.

4. Monitor Symptoms: Keep an eye on any changes in the area, such as increased swelling, redness, or discharge, which could indicate an infection. If you notice any of these symptoms, seek medical attention promptly.

5. Patience: Healing can take time, and every individual’s recovery process is different. It’s important to be patient and give your body the time it needs to heal properly.

In conclusion, while it’s normal to have some tightness and swelling post-circumcision, ongoing discomfort or significant issues should be evaluated by your healthcare provider. They can provide tailored advice and treatment options based on your specific situation. Remember, open communication with your doctor is key to ensuring a smooth recovery.
