Dreaming..?

Ten years ago, I was taken to a beauty salon by a friend and had synthetic fat injected into my breasts.
After getting married and having children, my breasts have become hard as a rock, and I'm worried about potential complications.
I have lost my appetite and feel distressed.
Is there a way to remove this? Will it be expensive? I am still young, and my children are small; I want to have a healthy body.
Please tell me what I should do.

Dr. Luo Qihua reply Plastic Surgery

Hello: There is no such thing as synthetic artificial fat.
The substances injected into your body may be liquid silicone or wax, which have long been banned due to complications such as hardening and infection, similar to what you are currently experiencing.
The only solution is surgical removal.
However, these foreign materials infiltrate the entire subcutaneous tissue and even the muscles, making complete removal impossible.
The cost for the excision surgery alone ranges from NT$50,000 to NT$100,000, and if you wish to additionally implant a safe saline breast implant for enhancement, it will require at least another NT$100,000.
You may want to consult a certified plastic surgeon (Taiwanese Board of Plastic Surgery) for advice on your situation.

Concerns about synthetic fat injections, particularly in the context of cosmetic procedures, can be quite significant, especially if you are experiencing discomfort or complications from the injections. It is essential to address your concerns about the artificial fat in your breasts and explore options for removal, as well as the associated costs.

First and foremost, it’s important to understand that synthetic fat injections, often referred to as "injectable fillers," can lead to various complications, including hardening of the tissue, as you have described. This hardening can occur due to the body’s reaction to the foreign substance, leading to fibrosis or the formation of scar tissue. In some cases, this can also result in pain or discomfort, which may affect your quality of life.

If you are experiencing significant issues, the best course of action is to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon or a dermatologist who specializes in cosmetic procedures. They can evaluate your situation through a physical examination and possibly imaging studies to assess the extent of the problem. Depending on the evaluation, there are a few potential options for removal or correction:
1. Surgical Removal: If the synthetic fat is causing significant discomfort or if there are concerns about potential complications, surgical removal may be necessary. This procedure involves excising the hardened tissue and any remaining synthetic material. The cost of this surgery can vary widely based on factors such as the surgeon's experience, the complexity of the procedure, and geographical location. Generally, you might expect costs to range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more, depending on these factors.

2. Liposuction: In some cases, liposuction may be used to remove the synthetic fat, especially if it is localized and not deeply embedded. This procedure is less invasive than traditional surgery and may have a shorter recovery time. However, it is essential to discuss with your surgeon whether this method is appropriate for your specific situation.

3. Non-Surgical Options: While less common for synthetic fat removal, some non-surgical treatments may help alleviate discomfort or improve the appearance of the area. These could include ultrasound therapy or other modalities aimed at breaking down fibrous tissue, but their effectiveness can vary, and they may not be suitable for everyone.

4. Follow-Up Care: After any procedure, follow-up care is crucial. This may involve regular check-ups to monitor healing and ensure that no further complications arise. Your surgeon will provide specific instructions on post-operative care, which is essential for a successful recovery.

In terms of costs, it is vital to consider not only the surgical fees but also potential anesthesia costs, facility fees, and follow-up appointments. Many clinics offer financing options or payment plans, which can help manage the financial aspect of the procedure.

Lastly, it’s understandable to feel anxious about your health and body image, especially as a young parent. Prioritizing your health is essential, and addressing these concerns with a qualified professional can help you achieve a better outcome. Remember, you deserve to feel comfortable and confident in your body, and taking proactive steps is the first move toward achieving that goal.
