Mild pain in the left chest?

Hello Doctor: A few days ago, I suddenly experienced mild pain in my left chest (which I have not felt before).
The pain was intermittent, occurring for a moment and then stopping for a few seconds to a few minutes, lasting for about three hours.
However, I have not felt any pain in the following days.
Could this be a heart-related issue? Additionally, I had a blood test last month: height 174 cm, weight 78 kg, waist circumference 90 cm, total cholesterol 171, triglycerides 112, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol 34, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol 120, blood pressure 110, fasting blood glucose 74.
I do not smoke or drink alcohol.
Thank you!

Due to your young age and the absence of chronic diseases, as well as the atypical nature of your chest pain symptoms, your risk of heart disease is low.
However, if the symptoms persist, it is still recommended to go to the hospital for an electrocardiogram (ECG) examination.

More Info

Intermittent left chest pain can be concerning, especially when it occurs unexpectedly. However, based on your description and the information provided, there are several factors to consider before jumping to conclusions about potential heart issues.

Firstly, it's important to note that chest pain can arise from a variety of causes, not all of which are related to the heart. Given your age, lack of significant past medical history, and the fact that you have normal blood pressure and cholesterol levels, the likelihood of a serious cardiac condition is relatively low. The intermittent nature of your pain, lasting only a few hours and then resolving, suggests that it may not be related to a heart problem.
Common non-cardiac causes of chest pain include musculoskeletal issues, such as muscle strain or rib injuries, which can cause localized pain that may worsen with certain movements or positions. Anxiety and stress can also manifest as chest pain, often described as a sharp or stabbing sensation, and can be exacerbated by hyperventilation or panic attacks. Additionally, gastrointestinal issues, such as acid reflux or esophageal spasms, can mimic heart-related pain.

Your recent blood tests show that your cholesterol levels are within a reasonable range, and your blood pressure is normal. These are positive indicators regarding your cardiovascular health. However, it is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, a balanced diet, and stress management techniques, to further reduce any potential risk factors for heart disease.

If the pain recurs or worsens, or if you experience additional symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, or radiating pain to the arm or jaw, it would be prudent to seek medical attention. A healthcare provider may recommend further evaluation, such as an electrocardiogram (ECG) or echocardiogram, to rule out any underlying heart conditions.

In summary, while intermittent left chest pain can be alarming, the context of your overall health and the nature of the pain suggest that it may not be related to a serious heart issue. However, if you have any concerns or if the symptoms change, do not hesitate to consult with a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation. It's always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to your health.
