Delayed menstruation?
Hello doctor, the last time I had sexual intercourse was on January 13th (with full condom use).
My menstrual period in January started on the 25th, and my periods are usually very regular.
However, I did not get my period in February, and as of March 5th, my period still hasn't arrived.
Is there a possibility that I could be pregnant?

Hello, it is advisable to practice safe behaviors to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and also to prevent unintended pregnancies.
If your period is delayed, you can take a home pregnancy test or visit a gynecologist for an examination.
Thank you.

Late menstruation can indeed be a cause for concern, especially if your menstrual cycle is typically regular. Given that you had sexual intercourse on January 13 and your period was expected on January 25, the absence of your period in February raises the question of whether pregnancy could be a possibility, despite using a condom.
First, it’s important to understand that while condoms are a reliable form of contraception when used correctly, they are not 100% effective. Factors such as improper use, breakage, or slippage can lead to unintended pregnancies. Additionally, sperm can sometimes escape during withdrawal if the condom is not used properly. Therefore, even with condom use, there is still a small risk of pregnancy.
The timing of your menstrual cycle is also crucial. If your cycle is typically regular, a missed period can be an early sign of pregnancy. However, there are other factors that can lead to a delayed period, including stress, hormonal imbalances, changes in weight, illness, or changes in routine. Stress, in particular, can significantly impact your menstrual cycle, causing it to be delayed or even skipped entirely.
To determine if you might be pregnant, the most straightforward approach is to take a home pregnancy test. These tests are designed to detect the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced shortly after a fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining. For the most accurate results, it’s best to take the test after your missed period, as this allows enough time for hCG levels to rise if you are pregnant.
If you take a pregnancy test and it is positive, it is advisable to schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider for further evaluation and to discuss your options moving forward. If the test is negative but your period still does not arrive, it may be worth consulting with your healthcare provider to explore other potential causes for the delay.
In summary, while there is a possibility of pregnancy given the circumstances, it is essential to consider other factors that could contribute to a missed period. Taking a home pregnancy test will provide clarity, and if you have further concerns or if your period does not return, seeking medical advice is the best course of action. Remember, your health and well-being are paramount, and addressing any concerns with a healthcare professional can provide peace of mind and appropriate care.
