Foreskin issues

Hello doctor, I have some questions regarding my foreskin:
1.
When I am not erect, I can easily retract my foreskin to fully expose the glans and the coronal sulcus for cleaning.
However, when erect, I can only retract it to about three-quarters of the way, as it gets stuck at the widest part of the glans.
Does this qualify as phimosis?
2.
Given this situation, can I engage in sexual intercourse normally?
3.
I have some concerns about size; when fully erect, my length is 15 cm and the circumference is 11 cm.
Is this considered large? (I have seen others that are larger than mine.)

Dr. Du Shixi reply Urology

Hello: 1: My foreskin can be easily pushed back to fully expose the glans and coronal sulcus when not erect, but when erect, it can only be pushed back to three-quarters of the glans and gets stuck at the widest part of the glans.
Does this count as phimosis? --> Yes, it is phimosis.
2: Can I engage in sexual intercourse under this condition? --> There should be no problem.
3: I have some concerns about size; when fully erect, my length is 15 cm and circumference is 11 cm.
Is this considered large? (I have seen others that are larger than mine.) --> No, it is within the normal range.
Wishing you good health.

When it comes to foreskin issues, particularly phimosis, sexual health, and size concerns, it's important to address each aspect carefully and with a clear understanding of the medical implications.
1. Understanding Phimosis: Based on your description, it seems that you can retract your foreskin easily when not erect, but during an erection, it becomes difficult to retract fully. This condition is often referred to as "physiological phimosis," which is common in many males, especially younger ones. In adults, if the foreskin cannot be retracted at all, it may be classified as pathological phimosis. However, your ability to retract the foreskin when flaccid suggests that you may not have a severe case. It's essential to differentiate between physiological and pathological phimosis, as the latter may require medical intervention if it causes pain, discomfort, or hygiene issues.

2. Sexual Activity with Phimosis: Regarding your ability to engage in sexual activity, many men with mild phimosis can still have normal sexual intercourse. However, if the foreskin is too tight during an erection, it may lead to discomfort or pain during penetration. It's crucial to ensure that both you and your partner are comfortable. If you experience pain or if the tightness leads to tearing or other injuries, it would be advisable to consult a healthcare professional. They may recommend treatments ranging from topical steroid creams to surgical options like circumcision, depending on the severity of the condition.

3. Concerns About Size: When it comes to penis size, the average erect penis size is generally considered to be between 12 to 16 centimeters in length and around 11 to 12 centimeters in circumference. Your measurements of 15 cm in length and 11 cm in circumference fall within the average range. It's important to remember that penis size varies widely among individuals, and what matters most is the ability to engage in satisfying sexual experiences rather than comparing sizes. Confidence and communication with your partner are key factors in sexual health and satisfaction.

In summary, while your ability to retract your foreskin partially during an erection may indicate a mild case of phimosis, it does not necessarily prevent you from having a fulfilling sexual life. If you experience discomfort or have concerns about your sexual health, it is advisable to seek a consultation with a urologist or a healthcare provider who specializes in sexual health. They can provide personalized advice and treatment options tailored to your specific situation. Remember, sexual health is an integral part of overall well-being, and addressing any concerns you have is a positive step towards maintaining that health.
